St. Ruadhan, Abbot in Ireland

THIS saint was born in the western part of Leinster. Having built the monastery of Lothraen, he assembled in it one hundred and fifty fervent monks, with whom he divided his time, between the exercises of prayer and manual labour, which he also sanctified by prayer. He was advanced to the episcopal dignity, and was called one of the twelve apostles of Ireland. He died in 584. See the Register of Kilkenny, and Colgan, in MSS.  1
