William Blake (1757–1827). The Poetical Works. 1908.

Selections from ‘Jerusalem’

[Fourfold and Twofold Vision]

(Jerusalem, f. 49, ll. 21–23.)

THE VISIONS of Eternity, by reason of narrowèd perceptions,

Are become weak Visions of Time and Space, fix’d into furrows of Death;

Till deep dissimulation is the only defence an honest man has left.
