‘Too Adventurous Wings’

ALES, dum madidis grauata pennis

udos tardius explicat uolatus,

defecta in medio repente nisu

capta est pondere depremente plumae:

cassato solito uigore pennae,

quae uitam dederant, dedere letum;

ac, quis ardua nunc tenebat alis,

isdem protinus incidit ruinae.

quid sublimia circuisse prodest?

qui celsi steterant, iacent sub imis!

exemplum capiant, nimis petendo

qui mentis tumidi uolant secundis.
