Though One Should Strive

Nancy Byrd Turner

LOVE is the heart’s last light to die!

Though one should strive in stubborn pain

To quench its beauty utterly,

Yet were his labor vain.

Yes, often, when the night is deep—

For all the far forgetful years—

A face looks star-like on my sleep,

And I awake with tears!
