There Was a Time

Helen Hoyt

From “In a Certain City”

THERE was a time destruction hovered its wings over my head;

Poverty walked at my back,

At the one side of me loneliness, at the other side longing.

But never have my feet gone so eagerly in the ways of my life as in those days;

And the memories of those days are pleasant to me.
