In the Mirror

Leo Grudsky

I THINK I have taken

The shape that people die in.

Pallor of an urn in which

Inextinguishable ashes of hungers

Send up endless wreaths that whirl and vanish

With indifferent inevitability.

Death, powerless before the dead,

Becomes my shadow.
