Because

Oscar Williams

From “Golden Darkness”

BECAUSE I have not kissed as yet one burning mouth,

I have kissed a hundred.

Because I have not looked into one pair of eyes,

A hundred have haunted me.

Because I have not lived one hour in passion’s flame,

I have died in a hundred others.
