Campo Santo

William H. Simpson

From “Along Old Trails”

INÉS, Anita, Tomás, José,

I sup with you, on my pilgrim way;

Craving the stillness of ’dobe walls,

And earth-floors trod by soft footfalls.

Yon campo santo is earthen, too;

Room in it for me, and room for you;

Little earth homes, for the weary—all

Who seek their sleep by the earthy wall.
