C.N. Douglas, comp. Forty Thousand Quotations: Prose and Poetical. 1917.

Fraud

The first and worst of all frauds is to cheat one’s self.

Bailey.

His heart as far from fraud as heaven from earth.

Shakespeare.

  • Some cursed fraud
  • Of enemy hath beguiled thee, yet unknown,
  • And me with thee hath ruined.
  • Milton.

  • So glistered the dire Snake, and into fraud
  • Led Eve, our credulous mother, to the Tree
  • Of Prohibition, root of all our woe.
  • Milton.

Though fraud in all other actions be odious, yet in matters of war it is laudable and glorious, and he who overcomes his enemies by stratagem is as much to be praised as he who overcomes them by force.

    Machiavelli.
