Bertoldo di Giovanni
 
 
(brtôl´d d jvän´n) (KEY) , c.1420–91, Italian sculptor. A pupil and assistant to Donatello and later the teacher of Michelangelo, Bertoldo was employed by the Medici to supervise instruction in sculpture and care for their collection of antique sculpture. His own works, often small bronzes, include battle scenes and mythological episodes (e.g., Orpheus, Bargello, Florence).
