Limann, Hilla
(hl´ l´män) (KEY) , 193498, president of Ghana (197981). In 1979, after seven years of military rule, Ghanas new military leader, Jerry Rawlings, handed over power to Limann, who had been elected to head a civilian government. Limanns Peoples National party, which he founded, was moderately socialist but enjoyed the support of business. In 1981 he was deposed by Rawlings in a military coup.
