Sargent, Henry
17701845, American genre and portrait painter, b. Gloucester, Mass., studied in London with Benjamin West. He was skilled in the rendering of textures and accessories. Fine examples are his two conversation pieces The Tea Party and The Dinner Party (c.184042; Mus. of Fine Arts, Boston). The portrait of Peter Faneuil at Faneuil Hall in Boston is also attributed to him.
