QUOTATION:The policy of dollar diplomacy is one that appeals alike to idealistic humanitarian sentiments, to dictates of sound policy, and strategy, and to legitimate commercial aims.
ATTRIBUTION:William Howard Taft (1857–1930), U.S. president. Taft’s last message to Congress, December 1912. Paolo E. Coletta, The Presidency of William Howard Taft, p. 185, University of Kansas Press (1973).

Unfortunately, Taft’s dollar diplomacy could not conceal the fact that it included economic imperialism, American customs control, and even armed intervention.
