Underneath this sable hearse
Lies the subject of all verse;
Sidney’s sister! Pembroke’s mother!
Death! ere thou hast slain another,
Learn’d, and fair, and good as she,
Time shall throw a dart at thee.
Wm. Browne.—Lansdowne MSS. Brit. Museum; but Whalley says these lines are universally assigned to Ben Jonson; and Mr. Wm. Gifford says they are by the Earl of Pembroke, without doubt.

Underneath this marble stone
Lie two beauties join’d in one.
Two whose loves death could not sever;
For both liv’d, both dy’d together.
