Grocott & Ward, comps. Grocott’s Familiar Quotations, 6th ed. 189-?.

Twilight, Morning

Night trails her unwilling splendors, loath to go;
Far o’er her cloudy home the mother moon
Walketh the silence with one baby star
Still tugging at her skirt (a wondrous star,
The loveliest scion of her golden race);
And yet her mother love with wider gaze
Holds in its large-eyed care the sleeping world.
Mary Clemmer.—Presence.

The aspen twilight wanes apace,
And ushers in the conquering day.
William Winter.—At Dawn.
