Joseph Friedlander, comp. The Standard Book of Jewish Verse. 1917.

By Rufus Learsi

Like unto Sharon’s Roses

MY darling, your grace

And the bloom of your face

Are sweet as of Sharon the roses,…

And a radiance rare

Illumines your hair

As verdure where moonlight reposes;

And your cadence is low

As Jordan’s still flow

When twilight day’s revelry closes.

My darling, your blush

Is like morning’s full flush

When over Mount Hermon he’s scaling,

And the dream in your eye

Is like Galilee’s sky

When only one cloudlet is sailing,

And the lure of your smile

My sadness beguile

And raise me from doubting and failing.
