Week One - DUE Thursday 2/22 (initial response + 2 responses to other students) Consider all the responsibilities that take up your time in a given day. Some examples might include working, caring for children, doing household chores, exercising, preparing dinner, spending quality time with your spouse, and so on. Next, think about some of the additional activities you may spend your time doing, including watching TV, surfing the Internet, looking at social media, and so on. Now, consider how you prioritize all the responsibilities and activities in your day and how much time you spend on them. Daily Priorities at school: lesson planning, meeting with administration/coworkers, engaging students to help with content knowledge, classroom management Daily Priorities at home: sports, dinner, chores, homework with kids, bedtime routines Additional activities: TV, scrolling on the phone What challenges have affected your ability to complete your daily responsibilities and activities on a regular basis? What are some habits or behaviors that might pose a challenge to going to school? -One major challenge that I face when it comes to completing non-essential daily tasks, like chores, include being absolutely exhausted by the time I get home from work. I have a very challenging group of students this year so I feel as though that, on top of other work responsibilities, it is hard to be motivated to do things that are not geared towards taking care of my children. Another factor that may impact my ability to complete daily tasks is, like many others pointed out below, my ADHD. This diagnosis makes it hard to have the desire to start a task then leads to avoidance when the task becomes overbearing. What strategies have you tried to help manage your daily responsibilities? Which of those strategies might help you achieve your educational goals, and why? I have tried many different ways to help balance being able to manage/complete daily tasks. The one that seems to be working the best is managing my time better while at school so that I can leave work at work. If tasks are small and can be manageable the next day, I do not take it home with me. That includes, but is not limited to, grading and planning. This helps ensure that I can have quality time spent with my children and it also gives me a chance to decompress from a hectic day. What are some new habits and behaviors you can develop to help you achieve your educational goals, and how will they help? In regards to my educational goals, it is important for me to work on procrastination. I also plan on setting aside a period during the day where all I work on is school-related material/activities. The college’s conceptual framework basically mirrors our job as educators. Our field requires lifelong learning in order to be successful and create a lasting impact on our students.
Week One Learning Activities Access the University Library home page and complete each activity below. Select "Research Databases" under the search bar on the home page and choose "Education" in the subject drop- down menu. Review the list of databases and consider the questions: Which databases are you already familiar with? - I have never heard of or used any of these databases previously. How might you use these resources in your program? - These databases will probably be a good tool to use when completing research activities and those that require statistics and facts to understand/argue a topic. Watch the following brief videos in the University Library Resources for this week: “Choosing Sources For Your Paper?” “What is a Peer-Reviewed journal?” “Locating a Peer-Reviewed journal”
