Law Enforcement 1 Law Enforcent Priscilla Oakman Antonio Dias October 23, 2010
Law Enforcement 2 I think that local law enforcement agencies, the state highway patrol, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are the most important law enforcement agencies. In my opinion the each provide essential services needed to fight against crime. They each work together to prevent crimes from being committed and solve crimes. They each contribute their services to other agencies with the common goal of enforcing laws of society and protect citizens. I think that each agency is very effective in accomplishing their goal of enforcing laws, preventing crimes, and solving crimes. The Highway Patrol is an important law enforcement agency because of the services they provide. This Department works extremely hard to protect the states boarders. They are usually the first on the scene when a major accident occurs on a state highway, and they aid local law enforcement agencies with criminal investigations. Some states don’t have local Sheriff’s Departments in rural areas. In this case the State Highway Patrol would have jurisdiction to provide law enforcement to citizens and ensure safety. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is another important law enforcement agency. The purpose of the FBI is to investigate crimes of terrorism, organized crime, foreign intelligence, federal drug offenses, and white collar crimes. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has an almost unlimited jurisdiction in federal offenses. Today the FBI has agents dispersed across the country working to prevent crimes and assisting local police departments. With the help of the FBI’s fingerprint database local agencies are at an advantage to solving crimes. For example the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) provides information on stolen vehicles. The NCIC is another database supplied by the FBI. This allows local agencies to provide a better service to citizens in recovering stolen property.
