Reflection Assignment #1- Angie Patrick In the first chapter of ‘Introducing Critical Media Studies,’ the authors deliberately added visual aids to the concepts presented. This was something that, as a visual learner, I was able to use to understand the ideas presented to me. On page 10, where the discussion of Postmodernity occurred, there is a handy diagram that I very much liked. What did you dislike about the article? I disliked the categorizing mass media section because it was too much information for a straightforward topic. Most, if not all, students in this generation know what print, motion picture sound recording, broadcast, and new media are and what they mean. The only media I need to know more about is new media. Still, that description felt very lackluster after hearing the definitions of other media sources with which I am familiar. I had yet to learn about the concepts of modernity and post-modernity and found them very interesting. The ability to pinpoint the exact century that society switched from a manufacturing-based society to an information-based society. This topic was a new piece of information, and it has been very fascinating to learn about. Definitions are handy tools for me, and I appreciate how the first chapter of the book and the in-class lecture had many definitions and did not just present new terms without an in-depth explanation. Along with the term definitions, I also liked the examples provided by the book and during the in-class lecture. The interactive process of the class was fun; however, it was only possible to participate with the class's motivation.
