The APA policy on evidence-based practice (EBPP) addresses psychology's fundamental commitment to the partnership of science and practice in establishing efficacious and effective psychological practices. Yet the implementation of EBPP by professional psychologists has been marked by difficulties integrating research and practice. In your discussion essay: Define evidence-based practice in psychology. Identify and briefly describe the three major components of evidence-based practice. Integrate EBPP into your practice: Summarize steps in the process of implementing evidence-based practice as identified by Frueh et al. in the assigned reading from the Handbook of Evidence-Based Practice (linked in Resources). Of these steps, which seem most challenging to you? What can you do to gain knowledge and skills to improve your proficiency in these areas? Evidence Based Practiced Psychology (EBPP) is defined as, “the integration of the best available research with clinical expertise in the context of patient characteristics, culture, and preferences”. Three major components of evidence-based practice include the best available research, clinical expertise, and patient characteristics. The best available research is described to be “a sizable body of scientific evidence drawn from a variety of research designs”. Clinical expertise is described as “essential for identifying and integrating the best research evidence with clinical data”. Patient characteristics is described as a part of understanding clinical expertise. You can’t have one of these major components without the others. The steps in the process of implementing evidence-based practice includes cultivate, ask, search, appraise, integrate, evaluate, and disseminate. I feel that the most challenging one for me would be to appraise the evidence critically. I feel that I can gain knowledge and skills to improve my proficiency in this area within time and practice. Sturney, P., & Hersen, M. (Eds). (2012). Handbook of evidence-based practice in clinical psychology, volume two: Adult disorders (Peter. Sturmey, Ed.). Wiley.
