In the decades that have followed, the Postal Service has tried to remain relevant in a competitive business environment. In order to be successful at this, a revamping of the agency was necessary in order to keep up with advances in technology used by business and individuals, and to address an overall change in the public attitude regarding “old-fashioned” mail services. The type of operations performed at the Denver plant is completed in two stages. Once the product has been completed, the product is stored into stock located in the Denver plant and shipped based on customer orders. This operation represents a make-to-stock strategy where the product is produced based from forecasts; which are held as inventory until the customer demands a product.
