1. Leadership, in short, is an art. One needs to be highly skillful and crafty in their leadership styles in effectively influencing and steering a group of individuals towards a common set of goals. This is to suggest that 1) the type of leader, which also refers to the leader’s ‘personality’, characterized by traits and personal qualities, utilized to earn the trust of the people and lead them to undertake the major tasks, and 2) his style of leadership, which describes the competencies and skills that the leader ‘applies’ to guide, facilitate and support the people of the organization in their efforts to accomplish the task, are the determinant factors of an effective leader. 2. Adolf Hitler was conceived on April 20, 1889 in Braunau, Austria, a residential community over the Inn River from Germany. When in Linz, Austria, Hitler did not do well in his study. His poor performance during the high school frustrated his father, Alois Hitler, as he had hoped that Hitler would follow his footstep in becoming a government worker like himself. The Leadership (Managerial) Grid joins concern for production and concern for people in a model with two intersecting axes (Figure 1). The horizontal axis represents the leader’s concern for results, and the vertical axes represent the leader’s concern for people. Each of the axes is drawn as a 9-point scale on which a score of 1 represents minimum concern and 9 represents maximum concern.
