Alcohol has been the lifeblood of civilization dating thousands of years back in time, and it is clear to see the culture impact it has made throughout history. People perceive alcohol in many different ways; depending on gender, age, religious background, or social upbringing. Throughout history alcohol has affected different cultures and various demographics. It has been a source of pleasure and aesthetic in many cultures, along with being one of the oldest rites of passage, especially in modern day American society. Alcohol and drinking were also an integral part of religious observances throughout history and culture. The use of alcohol can be seen as a social lubricant, and besides being a thirst quencher, it can play a pivotal role
There has been numerous studies conducted on the productiveness of treatments for alcoholics. The first effective anti-alcoholism medication was found in 1994 and has become more known today. Currently the diseases of alcoholism are more treatable and in some cases curable thanks to the creation and efficacy of specific medications geared for recovering alcoholics.
After reading the article on the man that faced alcoholism I can't help but feel more confusion. I am what you would call a "role model" because i don't drink, smoke or party despite being a captain of the football team and a very social person. Like you, I have never understood the significance of alcohol for people and what makes them gain an initial interest. The man in this article astonished me in that he continued to black out every weekend despite the many life threatening situations he went through and the other lives he put at risk. He is the type of person i would think is poison to our society. This brings up another question: Am i being way too quick to judge a person? Obviously this man outgrew his childish behavior and has become
“According to the U.S Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) alcohol is a drug, and everyday more than 4,750 American kids aged 15 and younger take their first drink.” “Alcohol can rewire the teenage brain.” Teen drinking is a controversial topic, some will say that it isn’t good and should be stopped, some think that it's ok and they should have fun. “Approximately 5,000 people under 21 die from drinking. That means 1-5 of you will die from alcohol abuse before you’re 21 years of age.”"Underage Drinking."
Whether you are barbequing, laying out by the pool, watching fireworks, or watching the Reds play this weekend, it is important that you take proactive measures to ensure your safety. You do not want your fun-filled weekend to end up sour by ending up behind bars or injured in a car accident.
don’t be the one that’s, and if you are the dumb one that brings it to school.
Ban alcohol advertising is a news article produced by Toronto Star. In the article, NDP, the pollical party argued that the alcohol advertising should be banned and liquor industries should be advertising the health issues that can cause drinking. In the article, the NDP member Mel Swarts said alcohol-related car accidents kill thousands of Canadian annually, and the evidence is provided. This article guides me to develop the new advertising strategy for the liquor store because the public is arguing about the health issues that caused by alcohol and people are now seeking for change. In my report, I will be using this source to provide the evidence to why Liquor Store should develop a new advertising strategy.
Alcoholism and alcohol abuse are different, although they have several connected characteristics, including genetics, how you were raised, social environment, and emotional health. Some of the following are indicators of alcohol abuse e.g., craving alcohol, having tried to quit in the past, but could not, spending longer time drinking than you expected, or continuing to drink even though it causes trouble with family or friends. An alcoholic is someone who has no control over alcohol and is unable to live a normal or healthy life; consequently, it causes a psychological and physical dependence upon alcohol. Alcoholics typically experience physical withdrawals when not drinking. Both disorders have a significant attribute for risky behavior e.g., drinking and driving or unsafe sex. Alcohol distresses all parts of the body, particularly the brain, pancreas, liver, and heart.
As you said, severe alcoholic intake during the younger years of life and even after can negatively affect the health of those nearing the last stages of life, but did you know small amounts of alcohol consumption in later adulthood can prove beneficial? Normally, a large consumption of alcohol can worsen symptoms of osteoporosis, which is already dangerous to the elderly, and increase risks of organ damage, cancers, strokes and cardiovascular conditions. However, according to the Mayo Clinic, one glass of wine approximately five fluid ounces a day or a twelve ounce bottle of beer for women and men in their senior years can actually reduce some of the risks normally associated with heavy drinking. This is not to say that seniors absolutely
The Director of Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Board in Uasin Gishu County, Dr Armstrong Rono has supported the proposal by the National Authority for Campaign Against Drug Abuse (Nacada) to take legal action against alcohol manufacturing companies that violate Nacada regulations by advertising offensive alcoholic products on billboards and electronic media. Dr Rono said some of the advertisements by alcohol manufacturing companies reach untargeted audiences such as childrens under 18-years, thus making them to try out the products when they are away from their parents. According to him, companies violating advertising regulations should face legal action and the advertisements on billboards pulled down until they comply with the requirements.
Alcohol is a substance that has numerous diverse affects on the body-both positive and negative. Alcohol not only kills brain cells, but when taken in profusion it has almost no constructive affects. Sure it can make one overlook his/her problems, but the consequences of drinking in excess far outweigh the benefits. It is not a crime to get drunk, however alcohol will almost always cause one to conduct them self in a way he or she would not normally behave. For instance, a sober man will not usually drive ninety-five mph down I-95, however, after consuming a good amount of alcohol, his eyesight, judgement, reflexes and abilities are hindered to the point that he feels
Alcoholism is a prominent substance abuse issue in Western society. The treatment method of controlled drinking as opposed to abstinence is a continuing cause of controversy in alcohol research to this day. The US is different from Europe in its acceptance of controlled drinking as a goal of treatment: “in the US alcohol dependence is typically depicted as a ‘recurring disease’ and the ‘successful abstainer’ as a ‘recovering’ though never ‘recovered’ alcoholic” (Coldwell, 2005). Depending on the alcohol abuse patient’s individual characteristics, either controlled drinking or abstinence is chosen as a treatment.

Throughout history, society has engaged in taking substances such as alcohol, that alter our physical being or our psychological state of mind. There are many experiences and pressures that force people to feel like they have to drink in order to cope with life, but for many alcohol is a part of everyday life, just like any other beverage. Alcohol is introduced to us in many ways, through our family, television, movies, and friends’. These “sociocultural variants are at least as important as physiological and psychological variants when we are trying to understand the interrelations of alcohol and human behavior”#. How we perceive drinking and continue drinking can be determined by the drinking habits we see, either by who we drink with,
Alcohol is a very serious and dangerous drug, although it is not treated this way anymore. College students have taken drinking to a new level in which, for many, is very scary. Alcohol is much more dangerous than many would think. Kids see a night of drinking as a great way to have fun and party but do not see the consequences. Getting drunk and even blacking out can lead to many problems. When alcohol is consumed in unhealthy amounts, it can lead to not only short-term effects, but long-term ones as well.
