In chapter 4, “Ride the Inflection Rocket”, a central point that Bill Gates bring out is that businesses need to change and adapt to the new digital way of business. There are many people that will one day use computers at work, at home, and at schools. Those businesses will one day, be customers going online to shop while only using customer service for support. Customers’ service is going to be valued a lot more as the internet grows bigger with technology. The argument that Bill Gates is established is that change is needed for business to grow and success. The interaction can be made by the use of an online webpage, email, and phone call. Helping a customer online also help increase the chance that the customer will return and increase the reputations and revenue of the company. The argument that Bill Gate is that, “As Internet technology matures, customers won’t have to distinguish between Web and phone support when they need help with difficult problems”(Kindle Locations 1580-1581). This is a great situation to be in as it allows companies to save money on phone-based customer support like dell, “Each week more than 200,000 customers access Dell’s trouble-shooting tips online. Each of these hits saves Dell a potential $ 15 technical support call” (Gates, Bill. Kindle Locations 1399-1400). Feedbacks made by customers can tell what the companies need to do to improve the website and help provide a better service to the customers. There are also communities where customers can interact with other customers, this also allows customers to help each other and spread info faster. My opinion of this point is that it is great. The benefit of online support is that it is quicker than waiting on the phone and gaining experience as you navigate the website to get where you need. The downside is that there will be people who will abuse the feedback and the possibly of some workers in the phone-based support may be laid-off.

This not only increases company’s chance of receiving more feedback related to their service in order to increase customer service but reduces the need to print, store, and process the comment cards and feedback forms. It is used for both internal and external communications in the company. Email helps users to communicate with each other more flexible in terms of time and location. Email can also be an effective way to keep track of requests from customers or suppliers, conversations within and between organisations, and other important data which company concerned about as it provides a record of what was communicated. (wiseGEEK, 2015) Furthermore, unlike in the past, interactive digital marketing has transformed and allows a two way dialogue between marketers and customers. Customer service is the most important factor in every business. With an online service the supplier could provide an improved customer service. As the customer enters the website they could be greeted by a pop-up chat window. Many websites now provide an online chat, where the customers could chat with a customer care executive and clarify all the doubts about the products or any other details. Even the customer could contact the customer service executive through phone which is a 24x7 service. Making customers happy is the important factor for improving the business and to gain benefits. All these customer services could not be provided if the Internet is not being utilized.
In 1999 Bill Gates and Collins Hemmingway collaborated on a project that produced the book: Business @ the Speed of Thought using a Digital Nervous System. Detailing businesses and public agencies using technology that transforms information to a more responsive element, energizing three major functions of any business: business operations, knowledge management, and commerce. Gates gives general lessons to other organizations with the ability to adapt quickly to constant change using stimulated business strategies. These strategies touch on the importance of digital information passing quickly throughout a company.
Technology companies are able to introduce products and systems to businesses across all sectors which at one point had been exclusive for business-to-business interactions. All companies are now able to have access to systems which allow electronic invoicing, computerising shipping and tracking and automated notifications, systems that at one point had only been used by companies such as FedEx and UPS.
“The best way to predict the future is to create it”. This is correctly stated by Peter Drucker, and upheld by all visionaries who created history in the world of technology. The 20th century marked a major turning point in computer advancements that changed the world forever with Microsoft leading the way. Bill Gates, the co founder of Microsoft, always envisioned Microsoft to be a leader in the computer industry, and that is exactly what he accomplished. Today, Microsoft has not only touched and changed the life of the common man, but it has revolutionized the business, medical, production and communication sector of the work world. Through taking risks, and believing in both himself and his product, Bill Gates is the man he is today.
Bill Gates is a frugal, persevering, supreme computer geek who can “hack code” with the greatest of them and is probably the most successful entrepreneur of the 20th century. While the other side of him is a hard-driven businessman. Gates felt that standards were one of the most important attributes you could possess in a company which has shaped the computer industry into what it is today.
In 1989, a man by the name of Tim Berners–Lee had the incredible idea of creating what we know now as The World Wide Web. This man’s genius creation opened up even more doorways for customer service. It wasn’t until 1991 that he was able to perfect it and introduce it to the rest of the world. The web allowed a way for communication and a way for promotion. Business could now air their ads cheaper. Do you remember back in our MySpace days? You would be scrolling down the page and depending on what your interest were, or the things that you searched for on the Internet, it would all be taken in as data and companies would then project your ads based off of your interest and try to promote their services or products to you. That’s a perfect example on how the World Wide Web has impacted customer service.

The company is one of Bill Gates and Microsoft has become and is known to run their computers and killer business systems. For example, Bill Gates told IBM to Microsoft to maintain the operating system MS-DOS IBM 's personal computer (PC) requires a new drawing. Gates proceeded to make MS-DOS license fortune. Your website is also a useful tool for building customer relations. Through the internet, your customers can find traditional ways of finding your business. A phone number and physical address can be easily added. More detailed information, like the best person to contact for different situations, can help customers get through to the right person on the first phone call. Customers never enjoy being transferred from department to department and will appreciate the quick, correct response. A customer who gets good service without the run around is more likely to be a repeat customer.
Being intelligent is always associated with being a continuous learner. Bill Gates’s greatest strength is his curiosity. Technology change can be either incremental continuum or breakthrough disruption. It can be a smooth transition or in pulses. When financial ledgers became computerized, it signified an incremental change in the existing procedure. But when we talk about concepts like AI or driverless cars, we think about something that is going to change the way we operate in our day to day life, something that no one had imagined before. While incremental change improves the quality of product and services, enhances the customer experience, a breakthrough disruption can radically change the way business operates and customers behave.
In a world of demand of instant information, whether it is the weather, news or latest sport scores. Society in American has been groomed to desire instant satisfaction of information at their fingertips. That need has transcended to corporate American and that instant information need is a common best business practice. Organizations used to use couriers to carry documents across town, and now sometimes electronic mail just might not be fast enough.
It’s official: We are living in the age of the customer. With real-time access to all sorts of information like prices, loan rates, product features and competitors, technology has empowered consumers to be more informed than ever before. As a result, consumers are causing disruption across every industry, even in banking and finance.
