Text E1 is titled just walk on by, written by Brent Staples. He was born in Chester Pennsylvania and was an author/editorial for the new york times. The text is an essay and was written in 1986 while the major events of racial profiling and brutality were a big issue. Throughout Brent's life, as an African-American, he lived with being discriminated and verbally abused by other races for example, whites. In the text he tells the how he feels when people run away from him or how he feels when whites are afraid because they see a black man nearby. Brent discusses how it is “abnormal” to be black in where he lived. In order to be respected in that town you have to look, dress and even talk like the white people do. She was young and small and he was older and tall. The women might have been afraid of him and we do not know for sure what the women was thinking. This gives the audience a chance to think and a chance to use our imagination of what she may be feeling. Emotional diction was the final stylistic feature in the text. “As a boy, I saw countless tough guys locked away, i have since buried several too.” The author's choice of words gave off an emotional appeal to the audience because he is saying that as a kid he was witness people being thrown into prison because of race. For a young child to see something like such is a sad thing. With this text, Brent accomplished giving the audience an idea of what goes down in the racist era. In text E2 the comic strip was is titled Police Brutality and was drawn by Kirk Anderson in 2017. The content of the drawing was to give a visual representation of what police brutality looks like in our society today. The targeted audience are the people who are concerned about the #blacklivesmatter movement and to the people of any race that is willing to help, stop the abuse of authority. The purpose of the comic was to give the audience a vision of what police brutality and violence looks like in America. Young, innocent, black people are being killed because of the color of their skin color. Police officers make up wack excuses on why they are shooting these innocent
