The game is usually played in three rounds, each consisting of 20 days. At the end of each round, each team’s financial results along with its standing are posted, which allows adjustments in strategies in each of the functional areas such as marketing or sales. During each round, any team can also adjust its business strategies based on financial results available at the end of each simulated day. The simulation program runs on top of an SAP ERP system, automates a number of transactions and simulates the passage of time. To speed up the game, each simulated day is usually set at one minute or even 30 seconds, making it a fast-paced and high-intensity game. All students have played some version of the game in previous classes, where …show more content…
The competition kicked off after lunch and started with game one in three rounds. The teams were then split into two flights based on results of game one, with the top 20 teams in flight one and the bottom 20 teams in flight two. Teams in each flight competed against each other in game two, which also lasted three rounds. The top five most profitable teams at the end of game two in each flight would receive scholarships. The games lasted a good portion of the afternoon. The event continued with a dinner banquet and concluded with announcement of the championship team and awards presentation. In the last two years the event took place at the university basketball arena, which was decorated with company banners. With close to 300 participants and spectators, it was an exciting event for both the student teams and their mentors. In sum, students were doing their very best to come out on top rather than treating the competition as just another school activity. The CATME website was used to collect teamwork and team satisfaction data . Each student was instructed to register with the site and get familiarized with the five dimensions of teamwork. They were asked to fill out the web survey to evaluate every member on their team including themselves on the day of the competition after the game. Two reminders were sent in subsequent weeks
When our group first started planning our strategy to win the second Littlefield simulation game, it was evident that the goal of the game was to maximize profits. We were competing against 18 other teams, but we knew with correct system capacity management and correct inventory management we could be the number one team. Even though we made correct decisions overall, we ended up in second place again with a cash balance of $2,660,393 and remaining inventory of 52 kits. Although we were a little disappointed again, we were very satisfied with what we have learned and the important operations management concepts we used such as capacity management and lead-time and inventory management throughout both of the Littlefield simulation games.
Playing soccer will lead to major achievements in people’s lives because of teamwork. In soccer “a player may be homeless yet he finds a family in his team” (Dertarczynski,2009). The truth is that there is a great deal of collaboration in soccer which creates a family for the player. Every player has a role to perform when playing and they all work hand in hand towards the same goal as a team. In this situation, players learn how to relate to each other, thereby motivating each other to be better player. Teammates learn how to trust each other to build important goals as a team. As a matter of fact, teamwork in soccer will increase people’s efficiency both at work and in school. People will learn how to accept their friends or co-worker’s weakness and try to help them to succeed in their various tasks. This will reduce people’s weakness’s and help them form better problem-solving skills towards difficult
I recently purchased a MacBook Air to replace a Dell Inspiron laptop that failed miserably. The move from a PC to a Mac was primarily the result of mouth-to-mouth marketing on a social media network. New York Times journalist Nicholas Kristof lamented on his Facebook page that his laptop PC the one that is used to convey Kristof's fascinating column and blog written during his travels was showing substantive signs of wear and he put the question to his readers: What type of computer should he consider as a replacement? The timing was perfect: after two trips to the Geek Squad, I was in the market for a new laptop. I had not yet begun to check out advertisements online. Reading Kristof's column, I was impressed by two things: (1) The quotidian rigors to which investigative journalist exposes his computer is impressive. (2) Hands down, the other journalists from all over the globe who responded to Kristof's inquiry recommended a Mac Air. This personal experience highlighted for me some basic principles about competitive advantage that I applied to the strategy simulation game.
Team cohesion is a very important area explored in sport psychology. Though it has as many uses as there are types of groups and teams, it has an exceptionally large impact on the success of sports teams and their ability to reach their goals (Building a Cohesive Team). The ability to become and remain a unified functioning team, especially when faced with conflict or strong opponents, can mean the difference between winning and losing. Developing a team includes many aspects, including trust and familiarity amongst the players, as well as a strong leader, with whom a strong trust and level of comfort is equally important.
One of the more important skills students will learn outside the classroom is teamwork. This quality can not be taught it must be learned by experience. Members will be on teams to compete in competitions. Students must learn the limits and strengths of their team member if they wish to succeed. This skill prepares students for the team work assignments which will be required in classes, as well as in everyday
Teamwork is a key skill that everyone should have installed in them at a young age.The brain of a child is like a sponge, they absorb everything and use it in the future. Playing football is not an individual sport unlike competitive swim or boxing, when playing a sport heavy contact or not as a team a child learns to work with others to achieve a common goal of winning or advancing. Children become cooperative and have the ability to collaborate with others making them more resourceful and beneficial in any real life situation. According to live strong representative and author of article “Benefits of Teamworks in Sports” Wade Harle, stated “ Teamwork in sports can help give participants stronger communication skills and teach them to work better with others. Additional advantages to teamwork in sports are learning to deal with conflict and varieties of different ideas within a team.” As the young child grows and prospers into a young adult having the teamwork ability and characteristic will only gain them the upper hand when applying for jobs, working on projects and in life commitments and relationships.
This week’s key learning areas have been eye opening and worthwhile. Our game simulation has taught me how to manage the human resources (HR), capacity planning, receiving, production, and shipping departments. One key element that caught my attention was bottleneck issues. Although reputation and meeting goals is important, I must pay attention to the machines that are causing bottleneck issues; performing a cost/benefit analysis can fulfill this. It is necessary to manage mistakes made in strategy during the game, which can resolve issues down the road to have a successful business plan. There were three questions posed in our case study: What are the highest three unit profits?; What are the lowest percentage mark-up items?; and How would you use this in determining your business plan? These key areas will be discussed throughout the journal to express my understanding of the experience.
In the environment today, it is not unusual to see people working in teams to accomplish certain goals and tasks. During our youth, parents and teachers encourage us through various methods to work as part of a team. Whether a sports team, classroom team, or after school activities, parents and teachers and other authority figures start the introduction of working in teams and teaching the value of being able to work together to accomplish a common goal. As people progress through the various stages of their lives, everyone continues to strive to communicate. Communication is a part of everyday life. It may be overlooked in some areas, but when dealing with a team environment, communication is vital. One
All of our departments worked together towards our company goals. Although we were not the most profitable company in the market, we feel we had several areas of success in the simulation overall. Starting in the 2nd round our market share began to increase rapidly, showing impressive market control in the 3rd round and onward. As discussed previously, we feel this showed that we were succeeding in our bid to meet market demands. We also never suffered from a cash deficit or emergency loan, and showed profits in every round.

Once the game started I was encourage on teammates on what to set the prices to because we went the first 4 days without selling any inventory, so for the first 4 days we still have a 6,000 bottles of water in our inventory. I told to lower the prices then the products started to fast but we knew the goal was to make the largest profits so I tried to think of equilibrium price so the number of sell could reach their potential max profits. My team member ending up changes the prices till we sold out of product 3 days before the deadlines. The event was fun, but what I didn’t like was the teachers were giving everyone around us valuable tips but we were the only team at a disadvantage already with three members. In all, my team came in third place, I wish we had more time to replay the simulation because I would told to the team to try out my strategies. After the game was over everyone started to tell their procedures to generate the most profit for their team. I am glad I went to this because it introduce me to a S.A.P a software that most company uses around the world. I plan on doing S.A.P simulation in my spare time to get more familiar with the
Teams exist because of the productivity of the whole team is greater than that which can be achieved by the individual contributions of its members. Establishing the team’s purpose, its role and responsibilities is key to achieving the development of a real team as everyone identifies their purpose within the group known and each individual becomes accountable for their contribution to the productivity of the team. Team members usually have complementary skills that the team leverage, creating synergy by maximising an individual’s strengths and minimising the impact of weakness.
Having played a variety of team sports throughout my life, I saw a lot of parallels throughout the class work on team building between positive teamwork and success. Reading Five Dysfunctions of a Team and then applying what we learned from the reading into several team building exercise gave me a unique perspective on how to create and identify key team building skills.
This directly translates into their studies and their lives. In these team sports, success or failure in competition depends on many variables. When these variables align through effective teamwork a successful play emerges as the teammates work together through coordination, communication and cohesion in training to achieve this result. Everyone has a role in the team and is expected to execute their task effectively. Any sort of individualism proves detrimental to the team as we all know, there is no “I” in
ERP, which is an abbreviation for Enterprise Resource Planning, is principally an integration of business management practices and modern technology. Information Technology (IT) integrates with the core business processes of a corporate house to streamline and accomplish specific business objectives. Consequently, ERP is an amalgamation of three most important components; Business Management Practices, Information Technology and Specific Business Objectives.
