The purpose of this field experience is to identify key issues of concern for high school guidance counselors. My child 's name is Jude Alexander and he is a male. As a baby he is cautious around new people and situations, but warms up fairly quickly to friendly people. In kindergarten Jude Alexander seemed to have made one or two friends and usually played cooperatively and was sometimes reluctant to join in new activities with unfamiliar children. He performed below average on tests of vocabulary, and the ability to retell a story. He had a real knack for the art projects, and really got interested in the pre-math activities involving working with blocks and geometric shapes. On September 8th, I visited our athletic trainer after school for about an hour. During this observation, many athletes’ ankles were wrapped. One of the football players waited to get an ultra sound on his right ankle. An ultrasound is commonly used to look at problems with soft tissue. The ultrasound works by focusing high-frequency sound waves on the specific location on the ankle that contains soft tissue. The sound waves then bounce off the bones and soft tissues and are picked up by the transducer. Chad, the school athletic trainer first put gel on the probe and massaged the athlete’s ankle for about six minutes. After the ultrasound, Chad wrapped both of the athlete’s ankles. As I entered Skyview Elementary School, I immediately felt welcomed. The school is very bright and colorful. The music room is immediately next to the art room, so the hallway has student artwork on the wall. It is noticeable that the school is student-centered and the environment is positive. I was not expecting the music room to look the way it did. When I was in elementary school, our music room was also the art room, and we did not have a large collection of instruments. Learning experiences in Culture and Schooling have impacted my values, beliefs, and attitudes towards others. Participating in the field experience requirement for this class has made me more aware of the diversity in our culture and has given me the opportunity to observe education in an urban school setting. I was unprepared for what I witnessed. I envisioned the institution to be dilapidated and neglected. I expected the students to be undisciplined, disruptive, and uncontrollable. I was wrong. The school building was well maintained and the student body was well mannered and respectful. After becoming involved with the school and meeting some of the students, all of my negative views about urban schooling have changed. Therefore, this course has influenced my perspective and opinions. I now realize that I should not pass judgement without having knowledge of or experience with the subject matter.

The purpose of the fieldwork experience was to create two portraits. One of an infant or toddler who was between 0-30 months old and another portrait of a child between the ages of 3 and 8. The fieldwork consisted of observing the infant or toddler and interviewing at least one of the child’s parents, with the observation and interview taking a combined total of approximately 5 hours for the first part. The second part of the fieldwork consisted one observing a child between the ages of 3 and 8 also for 5 hours and following the same steps used to create the first portrait. The fieldwork experience was based on 10 hours of fieldwork on the child portraits which were based on the children observations and interviews.

The emotional strain that a victim has to face can damage them in such a way, that it often leads to depression, anxiety, distrust, unusual crying, and disoriented. The field experience that I have received this semester has sincerely changed a part of my life. Oasis Catolico is a place I will never forget. I was able to follow the progress of several children throughout their semester and observe the numerous changes they went through. I learned very quickly that there are many things inside and outside the classroom that can affect a students learning. I also learned that not only was I observing the students, but they were observing me. The bond that I shared with these students was amazing. This experience showed me that even over a short period of time, I can have a tremendous impact on my students’s lives. It helped to prepare me for my future, and I was able to set many goals for myself.

I observed and analyzed the design and delivery of an instructional unit in a Montessori school setting. I observed a classroom of grades 1-3 two times from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the Kennebec Montessori school. I was asked to sit quietly and to not interact with the children so I could get a realistic view of the class day and the children would pursue their chosen work.
