Annotated Bibliography: Genetically Modified Food
In this research project, the question that initially guided my ideas was “How safe are Genetically Modified Organisms?" Beyond further investigation of the topic, I took the route of GM Feed to assess the animals that are being prepared for our consumption. Therefore whether there is some sort of GM contamination in the body of the animals with a GM diet, it allows me to make my own stance on the potential risks and safety of GMOs for animals and humans. With conductive research on scholarly articles and journals that investigate the study of animals fed GM Crops, I plan to explain to my audience that GM foods have more benefits …show more content…

Arvanitoyannis and "Safety Assessment and Countermeasures of Genetically Modified Foods," by Bin Du and Feng-Mei Zhu. With the two sources, I will provide the necessary information my audience needs to understand the health risks behind GM food along with the potential ways to counteract GM food, such as labeling before I attempt to present my claim to my audience. Lastly, in a source by Hiyam Al-Rousan, et al., will provide information that GM food is everywhere. Although we can pass a law to label GMOs, it would still be possible GM toxins and chemicals would still exist in label non-GM produce without a proper monitoring policy that checks if the labels on food are correct. All the sources will give more reason to why my audience should believe my claim and to continue …show more content…

Sieradzki, et al.. In the article, authors investigate the possibility of DNA Fragments within the digestive tract after the consumption of popular GM Soy and Maize, RR Soy and MON810 respectively. I will then refute with a source by Qingfeng Guan, et al., which argues DNA Fragments will degrade not only over time, but under high temperature and pressure. In addition to the article by Qingfeng Guan, et al., a source by Flachowsky, G., et al. examples the possible nutritional improvements that GM crops have to offer. The use of the article by Deb, R., et al, will also be used as the backing for my claim. Information that will be provided from the source will disprove my claim by examining the dangers in GM Food specifically the mycotoxins, or mold entering the consumer’s body. Authors also formed a rebuttal by foreseeing improvement to GM crops in the future, which then the article by G. Flachowsky can also support by adding the apparent improvement between first generation and second generation
