In 1816 the United Provinces of Rio Plata declared their independence from Spain. After Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay went their separate ways the area that remained became Argentina (Spain, n.d.).
The capital of Argentina is Buenos Aires, with a population of approximatively forty-one to forty-five thousand as of 2013. President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has been in office since 2007. The official language of Argentina is Spanish. Argentina is a massive South American nation with terrain encompassing the Andes Mountains (Spain, n.d.).

In sports Argentina does dominate certain circles, Angel Cabrera won the Masters that is one of golf’s top tournaments and in tennis Gabriela Sabatini and Jaun Martin del Potro won the U.S Open in 2009.(A brief history of Argentina).
The country is known for the tango, steak and football (aka soccer). Their soccer team founded in 1901 and Estadia stadium is their home stadium. Team captain Lionel Messi won the world cup in 1978 and 1986, and fourteen American titles (Spain, n.d.).
Although Argentina is known for the tango the history of Argentine’s ballet and dance can be traced to classical Spanish dance schools that originated in Buenos Aries in the 19th century. The Thierry company one of the most important dance groups had many successes. Other places include Mendoza – the heart of Argentina’s wine country, Barouche – know for Swiss architecture and its famous chocolate, Ushuaia – resort town with the gateway to Antarctica cruises and Jalton – known for its museums and vineyards (Spain, n.d.).
Ninety-seven percent of the ethic group in Argentina is Spanish and Italian. Although the official language is Spanish, Italian, English, German and French is also spoken there. About 92% of Argentina’s population is Roman Catholic.(Spain,n d)
Argentines have a weird way of looking at death instead of honoring the dead on the day that they were born they celebrate the day they died even teaching the children the last words spoken on their death beds.(Cultures and customs of Argentina).
Christmas and the Holy week traditionally brought from Europe, the holidays are out of sync because the Northern and Southern hemisphere have opposite seasons thus in Argentina Easter comes in autumn and Christmas comes in summer.
