Language is a cognitive function that most of us take for granted. It starts from early on, some say at conception, and it develops in complexity as we get older. It is an essential part of communication and without it its development would be greatly hindered. This natural process requires complex structures and reasoning, the bringing together of sounds and words to develop concrete ideas and thoughts. In this paper we will discuss the components of language and how it relates to cognitive processes.
There are many different ways of reaching out to people, whether it is through a gesture or a smile. Communication through speaking is an entirely different aspect and it is one that brings people together and at the same time sets them apart in many ways. Language is one of the most diverse gems in our society and it represents an entire culture. This paper serves the purpose to go in depth about the advantages and disadvantages of being bilingual. It affects everyone, whether or not they know two languages or just one. The number of bilingual speakers is projected to only grow in the upcoming years (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association 2014). People may assume that different languages draw a barrier amongst groups of people, but can there be more advantages in a bilingual society than disadvantages? This paper will explore both the societal and individual perspectives of bilingualism and find the advantages as well as disadvantages for the bilingual individual.

Another method pertaining to the resources was the fact that the teachers provided books written in many languages like Spanish and Chinese, this allowed all the children something to read and promoted the preservation of these children's native tongues during quiet reading time.
