Barack Obama Journey

For many years, American Presidents were viewed as being white and powerful leaders. Why were they only white? Is it because Americans felt Blacks were not smart enough to run a country on their own? African Americans were viewed as less dominate people and have been discriminated because of the color of their skin. In 2008, Barack Obama was elected President of the United States making him the first black president ever. In this paper, I will discuss how Barack makes a change and if America can accept him as our first black president.

President Barack Hussein Obama II was born in Honolulu Hawaii, August 4, 1961. Obama lived with his mother and father for a short period of time until his father left when he was around the age of two.Obama didn 't really have a relationship with his father . When Obama was little growing up without his father was a struggle for him.When Obama was 10 he moved back to Hawaii to live with his Grandparents,While living with his grandparents, He enrolled in the esteemed Punahou Academy. Obama excelled in basketball and graduated with academic honors in 1979.After high school, Obama studied at Occidental College in Los Angeles for two years. He then transferred to Columbia University in New York City, graduating in 1983 with a degree in political science. After working in the business sector for two years, Obama moved to Chicago in 1985. There, he worked on the impoverished South Side as a community organizer for low-income residents in the Roseland and the Altgeld Gardens communities.

Michelle Obama was born and raised in Chicago Illinois. Her maiden name is Michelle LaVaughn Robinson. While in school Michelle did very well, she was able to skip second grade and graduated top of her class. She attended Princeton University and then Harvard Law School. During summers she worked at Sidly Austin Law Firm, upon graduation she was offered a full time position. There she met Barack Obama. On October 3rd 1992, Michelle and Barack married. They had two kids, Malia and Natasha. After marriage Barack started his political career, winning the Illinois Senate State seat. While Barack was away in Springfield, Michelle took a job at the University of Chicago. During this time she found ways for college students to become more involved

Jesse Jackson was born on October 8, 1948, in Greenwood, South Carolina. His actual name when his was born was Jesse Louis Burns. His parents were Helen Burns and Noah Robinson, but were never married. A year after Jesse’s birth, his mother married Charles Henry Jackson, an office maintenance worker, who later adopted him. That’s how Jesse’s last name became Jackson.

Both of his parents, actually met in the University of Hawaii, His father being Barack Obama Sr, who was actually a black foreign student born in Kenya, and his Mother Ann Dunham, was a white american from Kansas. After the birth of Barack Obama, two years later both parents decided to get in a Divorce, and the father left to go continue his studies at Harvard University, after he was done, 19 years later he died in a car accident taken placed back at his home country in Kenya. From age six through ten, Obama lived with his mother and stepfather in Indonesia, where he attended Catholic and Muslim schools. After a couple of years in Indonesia, her mother grew a concern with the education of her son, then latter sending him back to Hawaii to continue his studies, he went back to then live his his grandparents, in which he will be raised by in his teen years. He later continued to attend Hawaii’s prestigious Punahou School from fifth grade through graduation from high school. Making him really smart, all due to the hard work the school had to offer in terms of education. His mother later had seemed to have problems with her husband, and decided to get in a divorce, and continued to then travel back into hawaii. At school education wasn’t the only thing that he excelled in, he also was a huge player in his High School Varsity BasketBall Team. But everyone also commits in mistakes, also while growing up he did many kinds of drugs, now he wasn’t necessarily addicted but he tend to do them in multiple occasions. With no father or other family members to serve as role models including the fact that his relationship with his white grandfather was difficult, he wanted to raise himself to be an African American in the United States of America. After the end of his High School career he then continued to remain in his studies and take them elsewhere, he went to the Occidental College in Los Angeles

He first characterized his family in detail and thoroughly described their racial make up. His father is a black man from Kenya; and his mother is a white woman from Kansa. He was raised by a black grandfather who served in World War II, and a white grandmother who worked on a bomber assembly line. President Obama has also seen both ends of the spectrum as he was raised in one of the world’s poorest nations; but later went on to attend some of America’s most prestigious schools. He talked about his wife and how she is a black American woman with the blood of slaves as well as slave owners. This information about his life was a vital piece to include in his speech because it connected him with other African American’s. It gave credibility to his speech and made his message more valid. It showed America that him and his family have overcome many difficulties in life, similar to what many American’s are trying to, commonly referred to as “the American dream.” His own “American story” was very beneficial to include because it brought forth a great deal of emotion from voters, especially African American voters. Obama as a minority at the school, became aware of racism and what it meant to be African-American (Biography). As he started understanding the tensions in a mixed racial world he wrote his first biography “Dreams from My Father” a story of race and inheritance which included growing up with a white woman with the absence of his father (History.com/Biography). He wrote "I noticed that there was nobody like me in the Sears, Roebuck Christmas catalog and that Santa was a white man, I went into the bathroom and stood in front of the mirror with all my senses and limbs seemingly intact, looking as I had always looked, and wondered if something was wrong with me. "As a minority he thought he had a problem because he noticed that everyone else looked the same (Biography). Even with all the conflicts that were happening, he was a top student who graduated with academic honors from Punahou School in 1979 (Biography). He later attended Occidental college in Los Angeles and two years later he decided to attend Columbia University in New York City where he graduated with a degree in political science in 1983

Barack Obama is forty-seven years old and was born on August 4th, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii (obama-mccain.info). John McCain is seventy-two years old and was born on August 29th, 1963 in the Panama Canal Zone, where his mother and father; both naval officers were stationed (obama-mccain.info). Both their family roots have a bit of Scottish and Irish, but Obama’s ancestry also includes Cherokee Indians and Lueo people of Kenya. John McCain graduated from Episcopal High School in Virginia and then went on t the United States Naval Academy in 1958 (obama-mccain.info). Barack Obama went to many different schools up through High School, but then attended Occidental College in Los Angeles for two years, then went to Columbia University in New York for political science. He then continued his education at Harvard University and graduated to ten percentile of graduating class.

Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4th, 1961. He went to Harvard Law School. After his graduation, continued his legal work as a civil rights lawyer and a professor teaching constitutional law at the University of Chicago. He was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 1996. He served there for three terms (1996-2004). Later on, he started his campaign in 2007 for the presidential election in 2008. He won the presidential election against John McCain, his Republican opponent and started serving in the office in January 20, 2009. He became the 44th President of The United States of America. He is more well-known for being the first African-American who ever served in The White House.

In 1996 he was elected into the Illinois state senate and in 2004 he was asked to join the US state senate. In 2008 Obama ran for US president and became the 44th US president. He ran again in 2012 against Mitt Romney and won once again keeping his presidential title.
