In the past several years, technology has played a big part in advancing medicine and the health care system we have today. The integration of mobile devices into daily living, allows monitoring of activity, caloric intake and life-saving devices such as implantable cardiac defibrillator activity. Patients also have the opportunity to obtain consultative services in their own home. These advancements have allowed medicine to move from the hospital setting to wherever the patient is. On the other hand, these same advances have led to some very unhealthy side effects.

This innovative technology allows institutions share their knowledge with health care providers who live in rural areas. Patient also have the opportunity to travel less and pay less for health care services.
To help patients become an active participant in their health care, institutions have developed a portal system. This technological advancement allows patients to retrieve their medical records and securely communicate with their health care providers through the internet.
With the integration of mobile devices into daily living, the consumer now has the opportunity to utilize many applications that helps monitor caloric intake and daily exercise. Patients can now monitor their internal cardiac defibrillator activity through mobile apps.
