Becoming an adult for me has meant gaining a better understanding of who I am and what is important to me and discovering the type of person I would like to become. This process has allowed me to celebrate my strengths, accept my weaknesses, and commit myself to making a difference in the world. The challenges I have faced include overcoming my working memory issues and discovering what I am good at and what I most enjoy. Sometimes, it seems that other students effortlessly understand everything that's put in front of them. That's not the case for me. I try extra hard at everything and try to avoid thinking my obstacles are greater than other students’. I always strive to make sure that I am doing what’s needed to offset my academic weaknesses. I seek help from my teachers and tutors, always spending the extra time needed to perfect my homework. Fortunately, my passion for reading, writing and verbal communications has paid off. For example, when I was younger, I was required to do annual poetry recitations, and they would scare me half to death. To overcome my fears, my mother asked me to take her place as the keynote speaker at Junior Achievement in New York City. I was ten years old. As I walked to the podium on the stage of an unbelievably huge room, my knees were shaking and I could barely make it up the stairs.
