Biology much like my major has several layers in its complexity and to move on to the next stage you have to understand the one before. To move on in my major and career I have to successfully understand the concept of biology 102. Biology is the study of living organisms, all life depends on certain physiological and chemical functions. The study of biology includes osmosis, acid-base balance, electron flow among other things to work together to provide the proper understanding of the human body. In healthcare you must have a basic understanding of the underlying principles of life; for example, as a nurse you will take people's blood sugar/blood glucose- but that number is meaningless unless you understand the purpose of glucose in our bodies and how we respond to its sugar level. The concept continues to identifying a patient's illness from how you respond and classify the symptoms. Anatomy a branch of biology will help me as a nurse differentiate minor problems from major problems. For my Health Science 1 class we were instructed to choose 3 different careers. The careers to be chosen were a health care career, a career of disinterest, and a career we would like to pursue. I aspire to be a Cardiovascular Perfusionist because it would feel great to be able to prevent someone from dying pre- maturely. I dislike the real estate field because they don't make much money and they do entirely too much work for not much profit. I choose Neurology as my health care career because I like learning about the brain, how it works and how and why people get mental disorders.

As I began college, I decided not to choose a major at first. It was not until the beginning of this semester that I declared Biology as my major. I have always been interested in science, and it has always been one of my best subjects. Since I was little, my dream has been to become a doctor. As I have taken more classes, trying to weed out what I do and do not like, I have discovered that sciences are what interest me the most. Currently I have an emphasis in pre-professional studies which means that my major is leading me to attend a medical school after I graduate from Arkansas State University.

Firstly, I want to follow my passion for the medical field with a biology degree. It will help me to get a good foundation when I get into pharmacy school. Choosing biology as my major is a good opportunity for me to learn new things that are a benefit later when I take the PCAT. At some point, the researchers have shown that people completed in a four-year program to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, chemistry, or in the familiar field would get higher chances of admission to the pharmacy and medical school. So, I need to work hard for it.

My major is Biology Pre-Med. I chose this particular major because I eventually want to become a doctor. The thing I like about this field is I like helping people; I want to save as many lives as possible.

There are hundreds of career paths and options, which can be overwhelming and exciting. I have looked into many possibilities and wanted to talk to a speech pathologist about their career and responsibilities. Speech pathologists, also known as speech-language pathologists or speech therapists, help individuals with a multitude of disorders, associated with swallowing, speech, and language. They can work in schools, hospitals, specialty clinics, or through private practice. I chose to interview Sherri Anderson, a speech pathologist for Rock Creek Elementary School in the Beaverton School District in Oregon. Ms. Anderson originally got a degree in English, and worked for a bookstore for a decade before going back to school to become a speech

The career field I am interested in pursuing is the medical field. The field that I am most interested in pursuing specifically in the medical is a surgeon or physical therapist.

I even took health science classes as part of the medical academy three years in a row during high school because I always thought that I wanted to enter the medical field. However, towards the end of my senior year in high school, I wondered to myself if I wanted to go through numerous years of college, medical school, residency, and fellowship that required a copious amount of time and money in order to become a doctor. I think one of the biggest obstacles for me deciding on Biomedical Sciences is the time and money required to finally show results of my decision. With that said, I really enjoyed my time in the health science classes I took throughout my high school years because it was really fun and I liked the idea of helping people. Therefore, that is one of the biggest reasons for my conflict in actually choosing to major in Biomedical Sciences. If I took Biomedical Sciences, I know that it leads me towards a path of becoming a physician, pharmacist, dentist, physician’s assistant, and many other medical careers, but I still don’t exactly know if it is right for me. Even in the My Plan assessments that I took, it said that health care is number two in the areas that I have a match

As of right now, I am not sure what major that I want to take to go along with pre med. I would like to major in something that will not only help me in my career but also be something that I am interested in learning about. My top choices for majors are kinesiology or nutrition. Kinesiology is the scientific study of how the body moves and nutrition is the study of the human metabolism and how it relates to nutrition. I believe that both of these will help me with my career however, kinesiology more directly relates to orthopedics than nutrition does. Kinesiology at Miami offers state of the art facilities and nutrition has a very high passing rate (“Majors by
