A dashboard designed for an executive should provide a quick visualization of the progress toward the organization’s big picture future goals.

The management information systems implemented within an organisation can be paper, computer or human-based; serving to produce timely information, usually of a historical manner, to allow management to initiate business processes and form decisions (Cox, 2014).

Executive dashboard is a powerful, customizable, efficient useful, web-based Executive information system that provides a consolidated insight of a firm or organization’s actions and performances.

This system assists McDonald’s Corporation in producing reports such as employee schedules and expense reports that allow comparisons to budgets. MIS provides profitability and information to help managers and staffs understand the business performance and plan the future direction ("McD Information System," n.d.).

According to Lavinsky (2013), an executive dashboard is a visual illustration that gives the management team a fast and easy means of viewing the real-time performance of their organization. Also known as Strategic Dashboards, they provide information for executives to align the activities with the business goals, answer critical questions, and boost productivity. Real-time decisions can be made through the massive amount of data since the dashboard combines and organizes numbers, scorecards, and key performance indicators (KPI) in a single screen. The screen is a simple interface made for the managers and supervisors within an organization (The Huffington Post, 2016). The interface should sieve information like the customer relation management (CRM) system, email system, and accounting programs to simplify the management work.

Executive Dashboard is a web-based Executive Information System (EIS) where the organisation is used to proactively view critical metrics, identify trends, raise questions, and devise new management strategies. The Executive dashboard is also called as Strategic dashboard which will typically provide the KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) that a company’s executive team track on a periodically. A strategic dashboard should provide the executive team with a high-level overview of the state of the business together with the opportunities the business faces.
