Summary: According to Viele (2012), she states that when it comes to information literacy, there seems to be an abundance of definitions. The most concise and all-encompassing meaning is that information fluency is a set of skills necessitating individuals to be able to distinguish when and what actual information is needed. The author states that an individual should be capable to effectively locate, evaluate, and use the needed information in making informed decisions that are invaluable throughout life. In any situation whether it be preparing a presentation for class, a poster, or writing a report, these steps should be completed in an ethical manner. In the article, the author breaks down each of the information fluency skills in component parts. She also provides explanations of how to do each with online tutorials links, helpful websites, and examples for reference of good places to start when making sure that each skill is preformed effectively.
Some of the benefits of electronically storing are that you can store vast amounts of information in a very small space, you can reproduce and disseminate this information at great speed, documents are easy to modify. Documents can also be searched for easily, and it is hard for the documents to go missing.
Information Literacy: Ability to receive and send information correctly and appropriately; by determining where the information can be found, who the information should be received by, and how this information can benefit or harm the desired outcome. Having the trait of being informationally literate means one has no challenge communicating ideas, thoughts, desires, and facts with one's audience in such a way that is easy to understand and informative. Being informationally literate requires one to present information in a legal and principled manner. Lastly, these individuals can portray information differently based on the recipient in order to provide the clearest understanding of the material.

Information literacy is very important in today’s world. Information literacy means that a person has the ability to understand when the information is necessary and that the person is able to find and then use that information. To be information literate, a person must be able to do the following: Assess how much information is needed, find that information, assess the information and make sure that its sources are reliable, use that information as intended, and make sure that the information is not used in a way that’s unethically or illegal.
Information literacy to me is basically being literate in gathering information, in today’s method of gaining information is at a much rapped pace as oppose to methods used even just a decade ago. When I was growing up there were no cell phones, MapQuest, laptops, tablets etc. Yes computers were used, but mostly in an office setting, this change came about in a very short time span, technology has come a long way. We have evolved into having information literacy right at our finger tips, we know what is happening around the world in a matter of seconds, whereas years ago you need to rely on second hand account. In this report I will be explaining all the different purposes of information. Businesses hold a lot of information for different purposes, which can be accessed by members of staff as part of their job however these might also be useful in other ways. For example Tesco have information on the products they are selling, this means they can put prices up or down if they need to. There are two types of information one is qualitative which is personal and subjective and the other is quantitative is factual that is often number-biased and obtained through well-defined processes. PLS (Progress local supermarket) is a company that owns a chain of small local supermarkets located in towns and large villages across the south of England. Data is unorganized facts that need to be processed, Information is data processed, organised and presented in given context.
Databases are the center of many technology and non-technology focused businesses. They are used in retail, healthcare, education and government. Databases are essentially in entering, storing, managing and referencing data, and can be simple in nature, or extremely complex. In order for a database to be implemented correctly, planning is required. Planning takes place from the moment of idea inception, and continues throughout multiple stages of the planning process (typically during the analysis and design phases). An Entity-relationship diagram, or ERD, is a visual layout or plan for a database. An ERD is defined as “a graphical model that shows the logical model of the data for an organization (Dischiave, n.d.).” ERDs should follow the industry standard best practices in order to be most effective and useful overall. ERDs that do not follow certain best practices, which are outlined in this paper, could cause delays, inconsistencies, or lasting problems when designing and implementing a database. ERDs should follow set business rules, follow appropriate, effective and consistent naming conventions, should clearly outline unary, binary and ternary relationships, should include attributes, entities and relationships and should be clear and easy to follow (Hoffer, 2012). Last but not least, they are used by informed citizens in participating fully in a democratic society through voting (Kenney, 2007).
