Taking a tour of the California wine country is like stepping into heaven. The air is filled with a particular scent that keeps me in mind of the richness of the land. The endless acres of grape vines that undulate over graceful slopes makes me want to just sit and stare. On a sunny morning when the dew has not quite lifted, it's magical and the sunsets are beyond description. It's not a wonder that such a paradise produces some of the best wine in the world.
A person can wing it, go solo and travel from vineyard to vineyard on their own, but the recommended approach is through an established wine tour operator. Trafalgar is one of the most respected tour companies with one of the best travel agendas through Napa and Sonoma Valley that anyone could wish for. You might think that being towed along on a huge bus with forty other people isn't your cup of tea or - your glass of wine, but it's

Here you get to test your palette for fine wine by making your own. You taste the vineyards specialties, but also create your very own bottle. As a guest, you are presented with three varietals; a Zinfandel, Petite Syrah, and perhaps a Carménère to combine using your own desired percentages to make a personal blend. It's a fun exercise and for some, a bit challenging. You walk away with a bottle of wine you personally created and believe me, a deeper respect for the vintner.
Next stop Domaine Carneros. This vineyard specializes in sparkling wines. It is an elegant chateau surrounded by acres of rows of vines. Here a winemaker will take you, through a brief course how wine is made. The presentation is engaging and you might find yourself hanging on every word, as you learn more about soil structure, climate importance and storage techniques. Then of course, you get to
In the 1960s, 1970s or even 1980s, if you ask someone, which countries produce the best wine in the world? They would have said France, Italy or Spain. However, if you ask someone the same question nowadays, the answer would be different. The new wine industry players such as Australia, the United States and Chile are changing the global industry structure, leading the global industry trend, and challenging the traditional wine makers by introducing innovations at every stage of the value chain.
The Aproveche family owns and operates a small independent winery located in the Napa Valley California American Viticultural Area (AVA).1 À Votre Santé (AVS), which means “to your health” in French, enjoys a reputation for producing small amounts of quality wines. AVS was started by Jerome Aproveche in 2005 as an extension of the family’s grapegrowing operations and as a means to involve his children in the wine business. This path is not an unusual one in Napa Valley, where there are more than 600 grape growers and over 500 wine producers and blenders, many of which are small family-owned
The Calaveras wine industry has developed a reputation for high quality wines, specializing in big zins, Italian, Spanish and Rhone varietals. You can literally walk wine country here at more than two dozen wineries with tasting rooms in Murphy and Vallecito. They’re all unique and welcoming, but the following come highly recommended.
The article “Chemistry of Winemaking: A unique Lecture Demonstration” by L. B. Church of the State University of New York, seeks to demonstrate how the winemaking process can be used as a teaching tool. Found in the Journal of Chemical Education, the text uses an instructive and formal tone while discussing the process and how it might relate to the classroom. His rhetoric leans heavily toward the use of logic. Aimed for chemistry teachers, the article refrains from using step-by-step demonstrations of each and every process, and instead discusses the use of common techniques that could be used within the framework of Winemaking. By guiding the readers through the general process, the author makes it seem a logical and easy to implement
Often I speak about vineyards that when you step through the tasting room doors it feels like you are home. At Mystic Hills Vineyard in Paso Robles you truly are in the home of the owners Joel and Judy Cox. Joel being highly successful in the movie industry as a film editor for the last 40 years and reaching retirement age, he and Judy decided to step into a family dream and pursue their passion of making wines. Both love the Paso Robles region and in 2004 Joel and Judy purchased 14 acres in King Ranch in San Miguel. Neither had experience in growing vines and making wines. But Joel being a perfectionist and with Judy managing the winery and actively taking courses at UC Davis and College of the Canyons to increase her knowledge of viticulture,

In the Napa Valley winemaking is a pivotal part of life. Many people work in the wine industry and the Napa Valley wouldn’t be even close to as thriving as it is without it. When people that don’t live here, think of Napa, they think wine. Yet most people, if at all like me, have no idea how the simple process of turning grapes into an alcoholic beverage works or where it came from. The concept of making wine sounds very strange, you let grape juice sit for a long time until it has enough bacteria decompose it and it becomes alcoholic. Wine dates back to far further than Napa has existed and arguably has had a massive impact on the history of civilization making appearances in The Bible and many other places.
To do justice to the subject of Spanish wines requires more than a single post, coverage befitting the third largest producer of wine, behind France and Italy, simply cannot be done within the limits of a single short article and summarization does a disservice to the exceptional wine making reputation of Spain?s dedicated vintners.
These hybrid grape wines are usually described as foxy and reminiscent to a wet dog which is not the quality customers look out for . Not to mention the fact that they are also quite inferior as compared to the vinifera wines which led to many european nations banning hybrid grape variety wines .

To stimulate the consumption of fine wine, Mondavi hosted many tours and educational events. He also established the Great Chefs program; the first winery culinary program in the U.S.
It is an excellent complementary grape variety that rarely makes up the majority of the final blend. It adds freshness, finesse, and aromatic complexity as well as hints of raspberry and violet.
