Cigarette Addiction.
Why are people addicted to cigarettes? There are a lot of reasons why people are addicted to these products. One of the reason could be relaxation, but is it really worth it? Cigarettes contain hundreds of chemical compounds that consumers are obtaining; however, thanks to those chemicals, the risk of having a disease such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, and dementia are higher due to the long terms risks of consuming tobacco. The U.S. Surgeon General estimates that 5.6 million young people alive today will die prematurely from tobacco. People should stop smoking cigarettes as it actually scars their lungs and damages their breathing, as well as causes a wealth of respiratory and other health related issues.
Cigarettes contain more than 7000 chemical. At least 69 of these chemicals are known as causes of cancer, and many are poisonous. Many of these chemical are use in another products than affect our body even if you are not a consumer of tobacco, some of those are; Acetone – found in nail polish remover, Acetic Acid – an ingredient in hair dye, Ammonia – a common household cleaner, Arsenic – used in rat poison, Benzene – found in rubber cement, Butane – used in lighter fluid, Cadmium – active component in battery acid, Carbon Monoxide – released in car exhaust fumes, Formaldehyde – embalming fluid, Hexamine – found in barbecue lighter fluid, Lead – used in batteries, Naphthalene – an ingredient in mothballs, Methanol – a main component in rocket fuel,
Tobacco (2017) explains that harsh chemicals are used in the production process of tobacco as early as planting. Healthy tobacco seedlings are planted in soil that has been somewhat sterilized by using chemicals such as Bromomethane or burning. This is done to protect the crops from disease, pests, weeds and roundworm, however bromomethane is considered illegal in many countries due to its highly toxic nature. Once matured the tobacco leaves are cured either by air, fire or flue methods. After curing tobacco is graded and packaged for sale to the manufacturers (Tobacco, 2017).. Cigarettes and other tobacco products are produced with many additives to control shelf life, disguise the irritations caused by nicotine and to create a more
The smoking habit is the principal cause of illness, disability and death around the world. More than five million of people in the world die due to smoking habit every year. If we don’t take care of this in 2030 the amount will be ten million. Seven million of these deaths would be in poor countries.
Cigarettes now a days have a many different chemicals in them. A 100 years ago cigarettes only had tobacco in them which made them less harmless. Now there are 4,000 chemicals put into cigarettes. There are 43 known cancer causing compounds and over 400 toxins (quit smoking support). That's why smoking cigarettes leads many Americans to getting cancer.
The addiction to tobacco, nicotine, and smoking is something the humans have embraced and battled since the early 1800’s. With more and more people falling into the habit and becoming addicted, many detrimental health effects on the body caused people to question what was going on and what was causing these negative reactions in the body. Soon enough, the healthy and “cool” cigarettes that everyone was smoking became the face of lung cancer, cardiovascular disease, birth defects, and many other deadly bodily reactions. In the early 2000’s electronic cigarettes (ECs) were developed by a Chinese pharmacist that hoped to allow smokers to maintain their nicotine addiction, but limit or end the harmful and detrimental effects of tobacco on the body, due to his father’s death of tobacco-attributable lung cancer.1 A typical EC consists of a rechargeable lithium battery, a heating tool called an atomizer, which vaporizes a humectant (typically propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, and/or polyethylene glycol 400). The humectant contains liquid nicotine. When the smoker inhales, the heating tool is activated by an airflow sensor, and the nicotine is vaporized.1 2
There are approximately 4,000-7,000 chemicals in cigarette smoke. Chemicals included are: nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, arsenic, acetone, benzene, butane, Cadmium and DDT. The chemicals previously listed are typically found within nail polish remover, hair dye, rat poison, rubber cement, active ingredients in battery acid, embalming fluid, and materials for paving roads. Forty-three of the chemicals within a cigarette are known cancer-causing compounds, and over 400 other toxins. In addition, depending on the type of cigarette that is smoked, the effects could be even more harmful to one’s body by containing more additives and chemicals than others (Kleinman, L., M.D., & D. M., M.P.H., 2016).
The types of chemicals that are found in chewing tobacco besides Nicotine are Polonium 210 (nuclear waste), N-Nitrosamines (cancer-causing), Formaldehyde (embalming fluid) and Cadmium (used in car batteries). These chemicals in chew make you get the high feeling, and they also make it extremely hard to quit chewing.
Tobacco products can harm your body, mind, and harm others around. Smoking can harm you in multiple ways, it can cause cancer in the throat, lungs, etc. As seen here by tobacco
There are approximately six hundred ingredients in cigarettes, when burned a chemical reaction occurs and they release more than seven thousand chemicals. At least sixty-nine of the chemicals have been proven to cause cancer, and most are poisonous. Cigarettes are composed of nicotine, carbon dioxide, irritants, and tars as wells as formaldehyde, arsenic, and DDT. If a human person ate one pack of cigarettes, they would be instantly killed. Furthermore, there are enough of these poisonous chemicals that
The high mortality rates are the primary reason why many people are actively petitioning for the universal ban of tobacco. In a recent article published by the American Lung Association they found approximately 600 ingredients in cigarettes. When burned, they create more than 7,000 chemicals. Roughly 69 of those chemicals are known to be poisonous, cause cancer, and many other diseases. Tobacco usage accounts for more than 30% of
Background: Smoking cigarettes is very bad for you for numerous reasons. One reason why smoking is bad for you is because it badly injures the liver. But, the worst part of smoking cigarettes is because of the nicotine contained in these cigarettes. Nicotine is a stimulant drug contains a plant called Solanacee. The nicotine is the reason why people get addicted to cigarettes. The chemicals that are contained in cigarettes are very toxic. But, this is something that the people don’t realize and still smoke anyways. The tobacco in cigarettes is also very bad. Tobacco contains about 65 different ingredients. Every little thing in tobacco
Cigarettes are made up of dried tobacco leaves and other things to make up for the flavor. Scientists have found up to 3,000 compounds in tobacco and cigarette smoke. With the total 3,000 compounds, there are about sixty carcinogens. There are a numerous amount of bad chemicals found in cigarettes. Here are just a list of few: Ammonia: Household
But we know the truth is not so. Alcohol is harmful for people’s health and sometimes it may bring bad effects to self-impression. And cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, including 43 known cancer-causing (carcinogenic) compounds and 400 other toxins. These include nicotine, tar, and carbon monoxide, as well as formaldehyde, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, arsenic,
Addictions to Smoking and Alcohol A lot of people suffer from the consequences of smoking and drinking alcohol, which often leads to addiction. The word 'addiction' is a very powerful word in this sense, as it means the physical and psychological craving for a substance that develops into a dependency, and continues even though it is causing the addicted person physical, psychological and social harm. The disease of addiction is chronic and progressive; it can lead to extremely dangerous outcomes. This applies to both smoking, and alcohol addiction.
Additives, some of them can be classed as toxic and are not allowed in food. When lit, a cigarette can reach nearly 2000 degrees Fahrenheit; this helps release 1000's of chemical compounds such as carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide, at least 43 carcinogens and numerous mutagens. These are inhaled into the smoker’s body. The main danger of smoking is nicotine. Nicotine is addictive. It can raise heart rate and blood pressure.
The simple smoke from a cigarette is more complex then it really looks. "Each time a person breaths in smoke about a million particles of very tiny complex materials are breathed in and only 20% of that is breathed out."(Hyde 1990) From these little millions of particles is the reason it causes problems for the human body. The main material in the some is nicotine. "Nicotine is an alkaloid poison found in
