In this dotplot I compared Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers. I took the points each team scored in their past twenty-one games and graphed them. In the dotplot the shape of the Warriors’ distribution is roughly symmetric and is unimodal with a peak at 108 points. The Cavaliers’ distribution is also roughly symmetric. The center of the Warriors’ at 108 points which is slightly higher than the Cavaliers’ center of 106 points. The spread of the Warriors’ distribution is about 43 points while the Cavaliers’ distribution has a spread of 46 points. Neither the Warriors or the Cavaliers have outliers. I also compared the points the Warriors and Cavaliers scored in their past twenty-one games, but this time I graphed the data using
FORM, STRUCTURE, AND PLOT: Outliers is not your everyday chapter to chapter book. The book is split into 2
The Washington Wizards are one of thirty NBA organizations, and they were founded in 1961. In 1961, they were known as the Chicago Packers before switching their name to the Zephyrs the following season. Starting in 1963, they moved to Baltimore and were known as the Bullets. They landed in Washington in 1973-74 as the Capital Bullets and became known as the Washington Bullets in 1974-75. They kept the Bullets name until 1997 when they became the Washington Wizards (“Wizards History,” Online). The Wizards won one NBA championship in the 1977-78 season when they defeated the Seattle SuperSonics as the Bullets. The organization has been owned by Ted Leonsis since June 2010 as part of Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which also owns and operates the Washington Capitals, Washington Mystics, the Verizon Center, and the Washington Valor (“Wizards History,” Online). Since January of 2016 I have interned for the Wizards organization in their basketball operations department. Although I believe the organization runs a smooth operation, there are certain aspects that call for improvement.
The Portland Trail Blazers organization is a sports entertainment company dedicated to not only winning NBA Championships, growing new basketball consumers, providing superior entertainment, value and service to the people but making a real difference outside the basketball arena in the local and regional communities. The Trail Blazers work outside the arena to make a difference in the local and regional communities by effectively serving people in need. The Trail Blazers enrich the lives of all of the people associated with the Trail Blazers brand as we thrive to diverse opportunities and contributions through charitable donations, solid ethnics and morals within the employment hiring’s and extreme respect for all
The RPI includes the team’s winning percentage, their opponents winning percentage and even the opponents of their opponents winning percentage. This data is even further dissected into four quadrants that consider ‘good wins’ and even ‘bad losses’.
The following Probability Plot clearly exposes any outliers; data entries that are . . . “far removed from the other entries the data set”, (Larson & Farber, 2011. pg. 68). We can see from this plot that there are several outliers on the high and low end of the data. However, one outlier in particular could cause the conclusions made about the data to be flawed. The data point located at 98%, 4600, is of major concern, as it is causing this set of data to appear much higher. It is recommended that this entry be ignored when making conclusions about the data set as a whole.
The 2015-2016 season hasn't even started yet, but people presume that the Philadelphia 76ers will be at the bottom of the standings once again. That may be true, but they will be a whole lot better than last year’s team.
For the first variable, result of the game, I put the outcomes in a table and also made a pie chart showing their frequency. There were four possible outcomes, win, loss, overtime loss, and shootout loss. The reason why I did this variable is because each result helps or hurts the team in some way. When the team gets a win in any way they get two points, when they lose in regulation, they get two points, and if they lose in either overtime or in a shootout they only get one point. Turns out the Albany Devils won over half of their first 30 games in 2016, with a total of 18 wins. They earn zero points in seven of the sampled games. In 17% of the sampled games they earn only one point per game. The team did not even have one overtime loss. The Albany Devils earned 41 of the possible 60 points up for grabs from January second to March thirteenth helping them make it into the Calder Cup Playoffs for the second time in the past three seasons.
According to ESPN NBA Senior Writer Ramona Shelburne, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver plans to address the "significant issue" of teams resting players. Silver has informed all teams that this issue will be a top priority in the NBA Board of Governors meeting on April 6th in New York. He also made it clear that teams that don't abide by the league's rules there will be "significant penalties."
The last time the Cavs and Bulls met each-other in the postseason was in 2010 when Cleveland won (4-1) in the First Round. The Cavaliers also won the 2014-15 regular season series against Chicago (3-1). The Wine and Gold are undefeated against Chicago in playoff games at Quicken Loans Arena (3-0). Including the regular season and the 2015 First Round series against, the cavs have won 22 their last 23 games at The Q.
It is hard to determine one or the other as "better" because both guys have such different styles. There is little fault in LeBron's game, he's a monster who goes to the basket whenever he wants. Jordan did the similar thing but did not just drive to the rack, due to his difference in size.
Kevin Durant left the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Golden State Warriors. This proves the theroy “if you fall down, get back up and take the easiest road to reach your goals.” My parents taught me that no matter what happens always maintain your integrity and work hard for what one wants in life. I will use my scholarship money to help further my education in the Criminal Justice degree program. I will then be capable to earn the neccesary stratigies and information such as my decision making, communicating skills to help my community as a police officer.
The Charlotte Hornets are an NBA team base out of Charlotte North Carolina. The original Hornets were introduced in 1985 as an expansion team along with three other teams. Leading up to the early 2000’s the Hornets had many problems with fan base and their then current owner George Shinn. George was accused of raping a Charlotte woman, which would forever tarnish his name in the City. Shinn was more or less ran out by the city council because of his bad reputation with the fans. In 2004 the Charlotte hornets changed their name to the Charlotte Bobcats, nearly ten years later in 2013 the team’s owner, the famous Michael Jordan submitted an application to change the team name from the Bobcats back to the Hornets. Soon thereafter the NBA announced that the Bobcats would be able to change their name after the 2013-14 season.
According to ESPN, LeBron James has agreed to sign a two-year contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The deal is said to be worth $46.9 million dollars, and the second year of the contract is allegedly a player option. This marks the first time in nine years James has re-signed with a team, the other times James opted to be a free agent. In 2010, he left the Cavaliers to play for the Miami Heat- where he won two NBA championships in 2012 and 2013. James rejoined the Cavaliers in 2014, and he made it to NBA Finals. Unfortunately, James and the Cavaliers lost the championship to the Golden State Warriors.
If a team loses in the first period, this means that its X-range must be smaller than that of the winning team. Since 9/26, or almost 35%, of Team A’s points are on 3 or 4 on the X-axis, it is logical for Team A to have a larger range. However, even disregarding 3 and 4 on the X-axis, Team A’s range is still larger than that of Team B’s. There is a greater spread of data on the Y-axis of Team A, as well.
On the graph above you can see that both the quadratic and the line are both adequate representations of the data collected by gold medalists for the men’s high jumps in the Olympics. Both of these lines follow the plots made on the original graph and they don’t stray too far from those lines either. There only outlier for the quadratic seem to be the medalist from the 1948 Olympics because his height is far below the quadratic. There might be some problems with the exact position of where the quadratic is and where the line is because they were drawn by hand and not on the computer like the stat plots which could potentially cause problems for interpreting the data.
