Introductions
The use of coaching and mentoring is on the rise within the workplace. Several organizations have adopted the process of coaching and mentoring as development tools to develop those employees who are seeking future advancement. Also, they are setting the foundation for future leaders. The adaption of these developmental tools within an organization is providing employees with the necessary feedback and support to establish and plan their career. Coaching and mentoring provides an employee with the necessary leadership and management skills they would need to strive up the career ladder within an organization. They need that continual feedback about goal achievement as well as the necessary support to improve their overall job performance. For managers to provide employees feedback and support in the form of coaching, developmental training, or managerial skills, these development are particularly relevant when employees are establishing their careers. (Cummings, 2009) In the workplace, employees want their managers to observe their work actions, and provide them comments on their executions and technical knowledge, which may be lacking. When employees are establishing careers, they are going to have concerns about how well they are performing tasks, job expectations, duties and responsibilities also wanting to gain the necessary knowledge and skills for advancement. That is why the role of a mentor and coach are essential in an employee’s development. It does not matter how much education and training a person receives, for a person to incorporate new skills and knowledge which it takes to get to that next level within the organization takes time, practice and feedback. Continual feedback and support interventions are very important; they provide employees with the tools which are necessary for their career development within the organization.

Coaching and mentoring use the same skills and approach but coaching is short term task-based and mentoring is a longer-term relationship.
The scope of this assignment is to critically compare and contrast the two approaches, reflecting on the relevance and value of each, to apply this to my organisation where possible and to offer recommendations where appropriate.
In this essay, the advantages and disadvantages of two core theoretical models of coaching (GROW and Skilled helper model) and one of mentoring (5 C’s mentoring model) will be critically appraised.

One thing I believe is a necessity in growing up is having a mentor. Having a mentor is, not only, beneficial for the mentee but also the mentor. Being a mentor is a learning experience for everyone participating, it helps people grow as a person and friendships are created when a bond if formed. Some people might think it's a waste of time for a child or that it'll never work out for a troubled delinquent but based on the research I've done, I have proven them wrong. Through-out this paper I will provide the pros and cons of mentoring and how they affect both mentor and mentee. To back up my proposal that mentoring is supporting, I will supply examples to answer the question: Is mentoring really important?
In conjunction with my first strength, my second strength has been identified as the capacity to help subordinates grow and develop within their career. I have demonstrated this by mentoring employees. This has included helping them grow within their current position as well as aiding them in moving up from their current level within the organization. This aid is often in the form of teaching, listening, and giving them my insight to what I have observed within the organization in concern to both reviews of work and job promotions. Development of employees has to be a quality that is purposefully demonstrated consistently and not just when an employee asks for help. This requires a regular effort on the part of the leader of a team. In order to help an employee in this aspect a leader has to know employees on a basic fundamental level. Inside any successful organization, there will be strong training and career development programs and systems. The chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in the UK (CIPD 2009) reports that 79% of survey respondents are using coaching within their organisation and that 77% say coaching has been increasing in recent years. Mentorship is very important in the workplace especially in the area of training and development. The mentor-protégé relationship is a much needed relationship that begins in the early career stage and this relationship involves the current or new employees and the supervisor or other colleagues that provide work-related guidance. The relationship itself is comprehensive and involves “educational, occupational, physical, social, and spiritual development” (Greenhaus,, Callanan, & Godshalk, 2010, p 211). One of the initial task of the early career the establishment of the career field which involves the gaining of the workplace competence, learn what is needed to excel in the organization, and to gain acceptance in the workplace to be recognized as the valued employee. There are many ways of achieving the above mentioned advantages in the workplace which one main method is through the use of the mentorship program.
This essay will start by defining mentoring, and giving a brief understanding of mentoring. This essay will then go on to identify and evaluate a number of key factors that may influence the effectiveness of a mentoring relationship. This essay will focus on the example of mentoring within schools and a learning mentor to be more specific.
The purpose of this paper is to inform you, the administration, about the innumerable benefits and possibilities of coaching and teacher mentoring, as well as to familiarize you with an overview of three specific coaching models.
