My identity is something that that no one can take away from me. As I am still growing and learning, I can say that I have found many things that appeal to me. My interests will help define my personality and express myself in ways that I can’t express through words. I enjoy finding new things to do and doing my best in aiming towards my goals. I have many goals, but I know that I can only accomplish them through patience and perseverance. Whenever I step outside, I like to look at my surroundings. I find nature very intriguing. The life all around me is something that motivates me to learn more and keep going forward. I enjoy learning new things and being able to find comfort in my environment. I like nature because it connects me to life and the importance of it. I learn to value all the life around me. I want to be able to take care of our environment and help it flourish and maintain it for the future of our generation. Being able to learn more about our environment and life itself fills my curiosity and motivates me to stay positive and focus on being the best version of myself. In learning, I also like to read different stories. One novel that I have read recently was The Maze Runner, which I found …show more content…
Personality wise, I am honest and try my very best in going towards my goal. I am also very patient with others and willing to cooperate in activities for the benefit of the better good and inspiration. I will admit I am a shy person, but once you get to know me I am outgoing. Meeting new people is not a new experience to me since I am used to new environments. Being involved in my generation helps me value myself more and to stay motivated and active. My interests in the future can change or even personally develop again but I would like to think for now, all I need is my motivation and positivity to keep learning and to never give
There are many parts of my identity that I can say with certainty that I feel that I consistently embody and perpetuate through my daily actions such as such as my gender, and my sexual orientation, and various other definers such as being a college student, a sister to an older brother, as well as a daughter to a father and mother figure. However, one core part of any people’s identity has been had to express with confidence, my race/ethnicity. I was adopted from China when I was almost a year old in ’97 by my Caucasian parents. I don't often think about my adoptive past as anything but a fact, but there is often day to day moments where I am not sure how to identify definitively. Although I am physically Asian, I can rarely feel like I’m fitting in with even in an environment that is highly concentrated with other Asians. One could say that I have grown up around predominantly white, middle-upper class people and therefore I am one myself. However, it is not realistic to believe that I am anything other than what I am physically although there is almost always a
What identity means to me is how a person or thing describes itself or is described. A person’s identity is based on their personality and who they are as a person. If a person is kind to other people and helps others this shows the person is caring so one of the person’s identity is that he/she is caring. People might identify themselves by saying that their compassionate, courageous, easygoing, determined, sensitive or even that their independent . Three words that identify me are that I am venturesome, ambitious, and athletic.
Another aspect in my identity lays in this 3rd category which is “things I would like to do in the future.” Firstly i'd like to start off with staying in school. I know many kids that are currently sophomores and planning to drop
When asked if I had a background or identity that defines me,what automatically came to mind was my mom without a doubt.Yes I know, I'm sure you hear this a lot, kids talking about their parents and how amazing they are but I truly mean it and know that she is the reason why I'm pursuing my college process right now. I feel as if my mom made me who I am today. She carried me for nine months and went through all the pain and suffering that comes with having a child. My mom has always been number one since day one. She was the one who taught me to crawl, walk, talk, basically everything! When I was little and fell or when i was upset and crying my mom was always there. I can't imagine not having her in my life. I have
There are many people in the world who identify themselves in many ways. People can identify themselves by their race, religion, nationality, culture, ethnicity, gender and much more are all factors to create a person’s identity. Some factors may have influence someone's identity or some people doesn't have any influences at all. A person's interest is what sets people apart from each other. People do not have to share the same interests. People do not need to be told of who they can become or not but instead they choose their own path of the way they want to live. They would set out goals that they would achieve and accomplish during their lifetime. Everybody is different because each individual has their own way of living. You as a
Identity are traits that express who you are.The five traits that attributes to my Identity are stubborn, intelligent, creative, apprehensive, animated. If I had to describe my mother’s Identity I would say my mother’s attributes are strong, skilled, compassionate, independent, stubborn. My thought process of choosing attributes that describes myself and my mother are traits that really describe who we are, excluding gender or race. I did not want to include gender or race because those are unsubstantial things that contribute to a small degree of who you are. Stereotypically I am labeled as an African American female, but I am more than that. I wanted to be creative and really think of the traits that really
Everyone has more than one face, they may fail to realize it but others around them do notice. I have many faces for many different reasons and for many different people, I have one for my family, one for my friends, one for my employer, and one for just about any other specific group of people. I used to not notice until I was called out on it by one of my cousins; she exclaimed that way I act around my non-relative friends was not the way I acted around them and that made her upset. Ever since that incident I have been fully aware of the way I act, however not much has changed. Around my parents I act in a way that is intended to meet their expectations, I'll speak to them respectfully and politely and do whatever they ask me to do. This way I can keep them happy, there have been instances where humor is involved and the way we communicate can become a little odd at the end of the day it remains the same with my parents. Like I said before when it comes to my parents I must do what is
Many people throughout the world have wondered what makes us us. Due to this they ask themselves questions and think about the situation. All of this relates to what is personal identity? Personal identity is the characteristics of what a human being is. Personal identity deals with philosophical questions about ourselves, for example Who am I? How do I look? When did I begin? What happens to me when I die? The argument that I will make in my paper will be that personal identity consists of three parts: body, memory, and soul. The premises for this topic are the following: the body is what we see and others see which let's us know who the person is by their body characteristics, thanks to the memories from the past it makes us have an
“If you want success, be unique.” (Natalie Massenet) To be successful, a person has to obtain a different identity and personality in order to have different ideas. The old definition for identity was, “sameness in all that constitutes the objective reality of a thing.” Identity is not how a person is similar to another group of people; it is who they are as an individual. A person’s identity is unique to themselves and what they do in their life. Identity is how someone lives their life based on what they are devoted to.
The second identity that has meaningfully impacted my life is race. I am white and this part of my identity has given me privileges that I primarily go through life unaware. Being a part of the majority, it is vital to recognize and acknowledge my privilege, but also be comfortable with my whiteness. Coming to that point has a few steps. The reading defines this process as “Majority Identity Development,” and it is composed of four steps; unexamined identity, acceptance, resistance, and redefinition & reintegration. Currently, I am transitioning between resistance and redefinition & reintegration. I am very comfortable with my whiteness, but I have a hard time being proud of my whiteness. This internal battle I have within myself is the biggest drawback of my racial identity. That being said, the benefits that my racial identity privileges me with far exceed any drawbacks. I have never been discriminated against because of my skin and I have never faced systematic oppression. I probably never will. Trying to fathom the exact extent of challenges that people of color face is almost impossible. The only way to solve these issues is exposure to other racial identities, education, and discussion.
The American Identity is created simply by what’s going on in the world, and how it’s affecting America. There could be many different versions of an American Identity, and you yourself could have a different opinion than your next-door neighbor on how you identify as an American. There isn’t just one thing that automatically makes people recognize you as an American citizen. Many different factors and ideas go into it, making it difficult to answer the question, “How is the American identity created?”
I am a refugee from a relief camp in Kenya. On my mother's side I am Somali and on my Father's Oromo allowing me to be able to speak both of their native tongues. When it comes to social groups I have been spent time with people from my religion and or country but in school I was the minority. As I have grown I have become engaged in social groups that makeup individuals from various countries. I went to an international high school so I have gotten the chance to meet so many different people with different cultural backgrounds and identities.
My identity guides my decision-making, thoughts, ideas, and dreams. I have inherited genetic and physical traits passed down from generation to generation, but I have also been raised by amazing people which has helped shape a part of who I am today. I feel, act, think, and dream differently. People may have some of these things in common with one another, but they will not be totally the same. It is like a fingerprint, unique. My identity has developed over many years and has been put together by the people I have been influenced by, and also by the decisions and choices I have made. It comes from my ability to think, reason and form an opinion as a human being. Finding out who I am just takes the time of sitting down and thinking of the importance in my life. Who am I? I am Karah Vance, and I am a person with different personalities, characteristics, and identities.
In recent years, social media has become the world’s largest source of communication. Communication is a way of identifying ourselves and to create impressions. Due to individual’s increased interaction through media, the formation of identity and understanding of self is now affected. When our identity is depreciated, we can feel out of place and believe that we do not belong to society. The need to belong to society shapes our behaviours and our impressions thus, a sense of belonging comes from a sense of identity. I will be arguing how people are never their true selves when in society and why individuals allow society to shape their identities. I will be using the theories presented by Erving Goffman, a Canadian-American sociologist, and writer, who questions if we are ever our true selves and when? In this research, I will examine the influence of media and how people in society perceives to wear many different masks. I believe we are truly ourselves when we are alone, in our own thoughts, or with people who are very close to us. Perhaps we act as our true selves around our parents, siblings, or a best friend. I chose to research this topic because as soon as individuals notice others who are not truly themselves, such as giving off different impressions around different people, individuals will begin to notice these characteristics about themselves and the behaviours they are adapting. We care as a society because it ultimately comes down to people looking for
My identity can be summarized by six key elements. Each element has helped shape me into the person I am today. Every decision and action I have made can be linked to the elements of my identity. Although there are many elements that can be found in my identity, my appearance and religion, along with being a Nebraskan, family member, student, and athlete, are the primary contributions to my identity.
