Community life and civic engagement are a huge responsibility of citizens, although it is not required by citizens, it is an important aspect of a proper citizen. Residents of a community have the constant responsibility of making the society around them reflect an advance in the eminence of lives in the community. The simple duty of any citizen is to give to the common good. Civic responsibilities are achieved by volunteering and choice. Volunteering, involving in positive organizations and aids, or tutoring people in certain subjects, are all ways that people can subsidize to the good of the community. Small deeds that seem to prosper someone in some way or the other is still a way of helping. To learn something from the assistance that one does to another, the deed does not have to be big, as long as the person providing the assistance is doing it with a good heart they can always acknowledge a lesson. Compassion and love is necessary in helping others. When people have the opportunity to help others they may not always get a gift in return, sometimes they may not even get a reply back. This is when the person has to realize that the purpose of helping someone is not for the thank you or the gift, but is for the satisfaction of their soul, betterment of the other, and the ability to learn a lesson. Assisting people needs to be done in a thoughtful and effective way for it to create a lasting impact on his/her self and on society itself.
Community Engagement Specialists are task with contacting Medicare and Medicaid recipients, educating them on their current medical plan and explaining their plan options. Out touch points with the members include the process of questioning the members needs to determine their concerns. Having member information as a knowledge base provides the foundation of the initial conversation. I would be unable to converse with the member without the members basic information. Everyone is entitled to lessen the negative impacts of prominent issues in society. I have contributed to lessening the negative impact of issues in healthcare and poverty through civic-engagement. I’ve work in the pharmacy of Urban Ministries to provide medications for underprivileged citizens, lead simulating activities within Pruitt Health to increase the quality of treatment of the elderly, and provide nutritious meals within Clemson Community Care and a locally based organization called With Love from Jesus. Moreover, I’ve spearheaded campaigns promoting the development of school based health centers and lead drives catered to the needs of my community. These volunteer experiences developed my passion for service, which contributed to
Module One expresses the Community Engagement, which “can be defined as people working collaboratively, through inspired action and learning, to create and realize bold visions for their common future," (Nosko, 2016). It additionally involves an exact reason to working with different individuals that are separated of various gatherings. These individuals could have an unimportant association geologically, comparable interests or basically a typical voice as far as particular issues. As for plot in class addresses, Community Engagement has a wide range of advantages. To start, the primary relationship with group engagement is by all accounts this thought of building a group around you. This includes tuning in and giving contribution on specific issues and certain circumstances inside the group. This starts with people finding a change in what is good and bad in a group. This prompts a drive in social change. Canada as a multicultural nation has a wide range of issues that emerge every now and then and with a specific end goal to help migrants from
Throughout this project, the ALA of Hawai’i has demonstrated key management strategies that have positively impacted the community by increasing smoking cessation rates, raising awareness of lung health, and outreaching to populations that lack access to cessation resources. It includes WKAR-TV, WKAR Radio, WKAR.org, Radio Reading Service, WKAR Ready to Learn Service and Interactive Video Services. During my time with them, I got the opportunity to work with Jennifer Preslar. She is the Event/Project Coordinator for their Public Media Department. Community participation is defined as taking part in one’s community. There have even been trials where entire communities who have been faced PTSD due to natural disasters, have turned to TF-CBT as a method of treatment an example of this is when it was used in 2011. There were 124 participants ranging from 7-14 years old due to the violence in their community. “Community TF-CBT effectively improves children's IPV-related PTSD and anxiety.” (Cohen, Mannarino, & Iyengar, 201, p.119). Allowing them to be able to feel comfortable at home, and walking around the streets in which they live taking away all of that stress and anxiety is a beautiful thing. There are other ways community members can take part in helping others in their area that have
The reality of policing is that not enough devoted time and resources to building relationships with the people with whom law enforcement interact the most: disenfranchised, marginalized communities where jobs, hope, and stability are in short supply and violence, guns, drugs, and despair are all too common. And plainly stated, none of this will happen unless police leaders and supervisors constantly embody the traits they expect of their subordinates, and unless effective engagement is a required, critical, and measured area of job performance.
The community engagement that I chose to be a part of was intramural basketball. It started with me mentioning the idea to someone and it turned into an experience that really benefitted me on campus. I wanted to join because I really enjoyed playing basketball with the people on my floor and also I missed playing basketball in high school. Basketball is my favorite sport and something that I can never get enough of, so when we were assigned this engagement project I knew exactly what I wanted to do.
My community will mostly be identify by low and middle class future and current students from all universities and colleges across North Carolina. The reason why I selected these people are, first, even though current students from low social class get pell grant, they still have to take loans from school to allow them afford for other school expenses. The same scenario also applies with middle class students. Then, the third people that will be included in my community will also be upper class student who had finished college because I figure out that they would not want to spend all of their money paying for loans with a high interest rate. Since I found out that most of my friends and other organizers are afraid of the decision that BOG is about to make, I will first get them interested. I will take a stand to discuss what is going on, and ask them to join me with any ideas that they may have to reach out to other students on and off campus that we know. In order to meet our goal, me and other members in Student Power Union need to work hand to hand.
Chapter ten focuses on bringing together communities, schools, universities, and different art groups. There are a couple of cases that take place in this chapter as well. Community engagement pedagogies are synonymous with service learning. Engagement projects are the ones that combine learning goals and community service to enhance both student growth and common good. (The National Service Learning Clearinghouse, n.d.) The quote below from Vanderbilt University’s Janet S. Eyler (winner of the 2003 Thomas Ehrlich Faculty Award for Service Learning) and Dwight E. Giles, Jr. defines it as “a form of experiential education where learning occurs through a cycle of action and reflection as students. . . seek to achieve real objectives for the community and deeper understanding and skills for themselves. In the process, students link personal and social development with academic and cognitive development. . . experience enhances understanding; understanding leads to more effective action”. (Vanderbilt University, 2015) Community engagement is incorporated into a course or series of courses by way of a project that has both learning and community action goals. This project is designed via collaboration between the community and the classroom. This service learning project gave give me an opportunity to apply course content to community-based activities. Thus giving me
