Introduction: From the Gigaplex paper we can see the impact of customer influence on the project’s outcome. CyCorp, a small organization was awarded a contract to enhance the performance of communication protocols that Gigplex used. For CyCorp this was a very important project. We can see this from the intention of Blair Borman, The VP of engineering who expressed the same intention and made sure that he was kept in the loop as he had to manage proceedings to enable future collaboration with Gigaplex. Problems with the stakeholder: Attitude of Julian: Julian an ex-employee of CyCorp was very aggressive and very hands on. In the paper, it shows that he wanted the team to pump out deliverables and applied relentless pressure on the Cycorp team to achieve this. This pressure caused a lot of …show more content…
The first step that CyCorp should do is to communicate to Julian via a status report or a meeting about what they were asked for and what they delivered. On the advice of Julian, they took his algorithm and implemented it successfully. Having done what the client had asked for, the CyCorp team can state that they have achieved the project goal and try to wrap up the project. Another alternative is that the Cycorp team could elicit the alternatives for the current design and ask Julian to extend the project to implement all these changes. However, if Julian says he was not satisfied with the current solution or the alternatives, the CyCorp team can invite Julian to brainstorm the goal of the project and find out exactly what can be changed from the current implementation. If the proposed plan was feasible, then an estimate for the required modifications in the project must be done and the same has to be conveyed to Julian in a proposal of an extension to the
Revised: August 28, 2002 In April 2001, Matt Heyman, co-founder of Cinemex, the largest chain of movie theaters in Mexico City, looked out the window of his office and pondered the future of his company. In just seven years, Heyman and his partners had nurtured Cinemex from a student idea into the largest theater chain in Mexico City, but they faced new challenges every day. Many of these challenges came from competitors. For years competitors ran old, poorly-maintained theaters, but in recent months they had begun to imitate Cinemex’s top-of-the-line exhibition venues. Their latest tactic: offering two tickets for the price of one on Wednesdays. Heyman wondered whether Cinemex should
Copa Cruises - Welcome Aboard! Copa Cruises is a 40-year old company that offers dining and sightseeing cruises. What started with only one ship at Maryland’s Eastern Shore, is now a big business operating at multiple locations with 40 vessels. Copa operates scheduled tours at least twice daily during the peak travel/tourism seasons at each of its locations. The total number of scheduled tours varies based on the number of vessels available at each location. Copa also offers its ships exclusively for groups. In fact, a significant portion of Copa’s revenues come from group bookings. Typically, group customers book for corporate events, weddings, or private celebrations (e.g. family reunion). Copa customizes the table arrangement, the deck,

The strategic design lens assumes organizations are deliberate, goal-achieving entities (Ancona, Kochan, Scully, Van Maanen, & Westney, 2005: M-2, 10). In this view, managers can achieve organizational goals by understanding the fundamentals of design and fitting design to strategy, as well as to the larger organizational environment (Ancona et al., 2005: M-2, 12). In this paper, I discuss the five major elements of strategy – environmental fit, strategic intent, strategic grouping, strategic linking, and alignment – and identify two specific elements as causes of the problems Dynacorp is experiencing with its redesign. These elements are strategic linking and alignment.

The nature of the market structure and demand of Cisco Systems is its business market which contains fewer but larger companies. For Cisco Systems, this implies that even though they have fewer clients than other companies, they still have a good and profitable relationship with their clients. For the customers of Cisco Systems, this implies that they will receive better and faster service and products because they don’t have to compete for the attention and service of Cisco Systems.

Pharmed First Inc. is a widely successful chain pharmaceutical company with 85 drugstores located in Canada’s Atlantic provinces. George Brenner is one of the 6 regional managers and Angela MacFee is a store manager in a mall located in Dartmouth. One of MacFee’s loyal customers have purchased 9 packages of Diet Magic on September 2011 however wanted to return them on May 2012. Subsequently, MacFee reacted hastily and defensively, arguing with Johnston in spite of Pharmed First Inc. return policy (Figure 1). As a result, Johnston wrote a letter to Frank Chen, the president of Pharmed First Inc. and told Brenner to deal with it. He proposed that the company gives Johnston a $500 voucher and that MacFee apologizes. However, MacFee remained inflexible as she also challenged Brenner’s authority.
