- Any party or entity that holds the power to negotiate and/or set certain terms as to dictating the future goals clearly has the power in collective bargaining. In the case of Delta Management or the Pilots, clearly the Pilots have the power since they have the upper hand in negotiating. Also, with the Pilots (Union) being larger in volume, they happen to be more organized.

What can the party with the lesser power do to increase its power in the future?
- For one, the party with the lesser power needs to start focusing on areas that will help them gain more leverage on lost grounds. In this case, Delta Management will require leverage on a more political aspect and attempt in shaking the Pilots union. Let’s take a look at some key areas that Delta Management can focus on to gain power in the future: o Expat pilots – basically pilots that work on short term contracts and are hired outside of the U.S. With today’s economy, expat pilots are hugely in demand from countries such as China and India. These countries experience intense shortage of pilots. If Delta Management can hire more pilots from such countries, perhaps they can gain more leverage from the pilot union here in the U.S. o Since most pilots are part of the union, Delta can start looking into hiring pilots outside of the union right here in the U.S. This can be beneficial to Delta Management, not only to gain power for the future but also work in favor for more stability in the overall airline industry as well as provide job

With this huge number of workers, they need a representative to make their rights will be claimed. That why American Airline has a voice with a different labor unions such as Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA), Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), Transport Workers Union-International Association of Machinists alliance (TWU-IAM) and Allied Pilot Association (APA). Therefore, the airline will be forced to consider and listen to the labor unions and their demands to avoid strikes that can damage the reputation of the company.
The issues between the union and the Magic Carpet Airlines are that the airlines do not pay their flight attendants duty rig pay, there is no job security, and they weren’t able to use their sick leave when they were sick. They did not agree with the way they had to give a five day notice to swap routes with other Magic Carpet Airlines flight attendants. Their major concerns were their direct wages, they wanted to be paid more and have duty rig, and have job security. These concerns were all determined by surveys that were mailed out to each of the union members, and flight attendants voicing their concerns.
