Diversity Organizations Paper Throughout most of history, women have endured so much. They almost always had fewer legal rights and career opportunities. The main professions tied to women were wifehood and motherhood. According to "Women's History in America" (1995), “Women were long considered naturally weaker than men, squeamish, and unable to perform work requiring muscular or intellectual development.” The common stereotype was “a woman’s place is in the home.” Women went through the struggles of not being able to get an education, voice their opinions, not having the right to vote, and being viewed as property.
Gladly, the role women

For 17 years the military had a don’t ask, don’t tell policy but on September 20th, 2011, the repeal of the policy went into action. Now gay men and lesbians are allowed to serve openly in the military. ("Gay Rights In the U.S. Today", n.d.). There are also more states legalizing gay marriage including, Nevada, Idaho, Arizona, North Carolina, and Alaska all in 2014. The Gay & Lesbian Alliance against Defamation (GLAAD) organization founded in 1985, speaks out for the LBGT community through print, broadcast and online news sources to help build support and equality. With GLAAD working through the media, it helps inform the viewers to lead them to support equality. The people of LGBT have been working very hard for equality and they deserve it because they are no different from anyone else.
When looking at social and political issues relevant to women and LGBT people, we see that women do not make as much as their male counterparts, and unfortunately this is not based on their qualified skills and knowledge, it is pretty much based on the idea that men are somehow superior, and are better qualified witch is very unfortunate. It seems like women and LGBT fall short together as the second class. LGBT people fight to be treated like regular people. Many political topics surround women and LGBT people like weather it is fair that women still make less than men and gay peoples strive for
Whereas in recent decades major strides toward gender equality have been made, sociologists are quick to point out that much remains to be done if inequalities in the United States are ever to be eliminated. Behind much of the inequalities seen in education, the workplace, and politics is sexism, or prejudice and discrimination because of gender. Fundamental to sexism is the assumption that men are superior to women.
For this paper I chose to interview Gio Rodriguez. He is different from me because he is of Latino decent, was born in Mexico, and is a first generation college student. I also chose Gio because I have gotten to know him over the months of being here so far, and consider him a pretty good friend.
Women have had a rough way to go for many years when it comes to equality. They face many negative things in today’s society and that is the way it has been for many years. History shows that women have been fighting for equality for decades, because many people believe they just can’t do the things that men can. There’s a website that has been helping women fight for that equality since 1966. That website is www.now.org. Before then women never really had any help. They had to rely on each other to show everyone what they could really do. Women have fought to try and end discrimination when it comes to jobs and economic justice. So the status of women throughout history has changed,

Behavior is best defined as the unique behaviors, emotions and thought processes of an individual including the way that he or she interacts with others. While much of behavior may be thought to be innate, there are also external factors that can impact an individual's behavior. These factors have diversity and demographic characteristics; four of these factors will be discussed in this paper and the impact each has on individuals will be shown. Religion, personality traits, age and gender are thought to have the greatest impacts and therefore providing the best opportunity for discussion.
Their husbands have become equals instead of being the man of the house and handling all of the decisions. Decisions are now being made by both men and women.
For centuries the concept of gender and equality have been issues and talking points. Attitudes toward women have gradually softened and changed for the better as they are viewed as being equal with men. Women throughout history have been referred to as housewives, and factory girls. They weren’t able to gain the respect from men until they took a stance against inequality, also known as women’s suffrage. “I declare to you that woman must not depend upon the protection of man, but must be taught to protect herself, and there I take my stand”, stated Susan B Anthony. Many factors have contributed to the rise of the status of women throughout the history of the United States. These factors include education, income status, and political contributions.
According to an opinion widely held, homosexuality is said to be freer today than ever before. It is present and visible everywhere: in the street, in the newspapers, on television, at the movies. It is even supposedly completely accepted, judging by the recent legislative advances made in many countries for the recognition of same sex couples. Certainly, some work remains necessary in order to eradicate the last vestiges of discrimination. But with changing public opinion, it will only be, according to some people, a matter of time, the time needed for a movement begun many decades earlier to achieve its goals.
As an owner of a growing automotive shop you are one day visited by a man named Jeff. Jeff runs his own lawn company and for his job he has 10 trucks, he was wondering if you would be willing to work on them for him. You show him around your shop and introduces him to your team. You have Chuck, Chuck has been with your shop for 22 years and he is a hard worker. Jeff likes your place but he doesn’t like your workers because chuck is Muslim descent, Sarah is a female and Jake is too young. You now have a couple of options to get the contract. The role of women in the United States has changed dramatically in the last couple of decades. For one, women have taken on responsibilities outside the home, such as joining the paid workforce. While women made up only about one third of the workforce in 1969, women today make up half of the paid workers in the US. Women are also stepping up to lead the country as well as making progress on health issues. Over the past few years women have been able to end gender discrimination, however substantial inequalities still remain. During the “Old English” period women were generally involved in tasks that required little physical work. While men were ox-herders, laborers, swine-herders and so forth women were cheese makers and dairy maids. They were also bakers, not cooks. Women of this time were also entertainers, comedians, and singers. They may have been employed by households or traveling groups. Women were considered “unimportant” during this time and had very little, to no, equality to men.
Cultural diversity, or multiculturalism, is based on the idea that cultural identities should not be discarded or ignored, but rather maintained and valued. The foundation of this belief is that every culture and race has made a substantial contribution to American history. However, many people remain opposed to the idea of multiculturalism, or cultural diversity awareness, while others often support it and yet have no clear idea of how it should be taught. The diversity of the United States is truly astounding, as many different ethnic and racial groups have contributed to the social,
Since the establishment of the United States women were treated like second- class citizens. Compared to men, women were considered subordinate, weak, unintelligent, unaccepted and weren’t taken seriously in society. Women were not allowed to or have the opportunity to do many things, that certain men were entitled to. A few examples include education, owning land, the right to vote, having a profession, having an opinion or a
This article shows that diversity challenges can be overcome by addressing the negatives of diversity and promote the positives, in order to achieve the desired diversity and inclusion benefits. As the efforts focuse to maximize the effectiveness of diversity by the staff and the organization and managers .According to theory of social identity the individuals prefer similar groups and hate the other social groups, which creates difficulties when people interact with each other inside or outside the organization as a result of the behavior come wrong for some individuals to other groups. These difficulties can be addressed in several ways, such as providing psychological and social support and listening. These practices seem simple, but that
(#TW) It has been said Sunday morning is the most segregated hour of Christian America in the church. Americans say diversity is good for the country. However, they do not always practice it. This is true for the LGBT community, hispanic community, white community, black community etc. We all should welcome each other. In Genesis 1:27, God wants diversity by creating diversity " So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." Paul said in 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 "12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves[a] or
Women have been a key part in United States history since the beginning, whether that means in economics, politics, or the social sphere. Women have continually been put below men as the “second sex.” However, without women every aspect of American life would be different. Women play a crucial role in consumerism, reform, and culture, which are all main parts of United States domestic life.
