In 1999 Donald Trump stated that he would not ban late term abortions if we became president . By the year 2000 , he said that he changed his mind about not banning late term abortions . After this around the year 2011 he came out as a pro life and by 2015 he mentioned there was certain exception . The exceptions cases are rape, incest, or when the life of the women aborting is at risk .
In a Republican presidential debate in February, Trump let everyone know for the second time that he was completely against abortion . He also spoke about how planned parenthood helps a lot of women and children . Planned parenthood basically provides services to women that go for services like breast and screenings for cervical cancer . But Trump is having
“Nothing matters.” That quote attributed to Ambrose Bierce may be true in some cases. It may be true to those who do not value the funding of Planned Parenthood. But something does matter. And that is the funding of the healthcare resource Planned Parenthood. Many do not understand the vital role Planned Parenthood plays in the lives of up and coming parents. Planned Parenthood has been operating and serving those in need of care in the United States and overseas for more than 40 years (“Planned Parenthood Global”). Planned Parenthood has vowed in their mission statement:
Since many believe that Planned Parenthood only performs abortions, a frenzy against it has been created. “We don’t want to commit taxpayer funding for abortions, and Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider” (Strickland quoting Paul Ryan, 2017). Republicans rather see federal funding go towards federal community centers. However, to clarify this misconception we need to look at what federal funding is going towards. Planned Parenthood receives its funding from Medicaid reimbursements (Berg, 2017). They do not keep any hidden money, or have money put aside to preform free abortions. As the federal money that comes in goes straight towards helping patients.
There have been many attempts on their part to pass anti-abortion legislation through and the most recent effort to defund Planned Parenthood is a response to false allegations surrounding fetal tissue donation. While Planned Parenthood does offer abortion services, the facility provides a wide array of other health services to demographics that are limited in their choice of health care provider. The issue is not that Planned Parenthood should not receive funding from the government; the issue is that republicans want to push their anti-abortion agenda. America has continually emphasized their believe in the separation of church and state. Those that support pulling funding have been using inaccurate information regarding the fetal donations to start a fire behind prolife
Paul Ryan and a group of GOP leaders have made a statement to cnn.com and along with other news broadcast, that in order stay within our nation’s budget Trump’s plan is to defund planned parenthood as soon as possible because we have other sources for women’s care as well sexual reproductive health for both men and women. From what I have noticed, that with the statistic rate of unplanned pregnancies and the poverty rate rising in the United States should show how important this organization is to the women as well as couples who need affordable help with birth control options. I have researched many online interviews as well as having physical evidence that this organization is a good resource
According to Bryce Covert and Mike Konczal’s article, “Born, Not Free,” the government funds constitute about $500 million of the $1.1 billion total Planned Parenthood receives in funding. However, the money coming from the government cannot legally be used towards the administration of abortion, which is the main topic of controversy. Politicians who are in favor of defunding argue that by giving money to the facility whose services are in part constituted by abortion, those funds are essentially being given in support of abortions. On the contrary, though Planned Parenthood has come to be known as a symbol for abortion, abortion constitutes only 3% of the services provided. According to Nancy Gibbs, a managing editor for TIME magazine, the other 97% is made up of “family planning, immunizations and screening for cancer and sexually transmitted diseases” (Gibbs). Due to the funding from the government, Planned Parenthood is able to provide the aforementioned inexpensive yet crucial services to women. $500 million dollars is a small price to pay to ensure the health and wellbeing of half of the population of the United States of America. Also, even though abortion is only a small part Planned Parenthood, a woman is able to have the procedure done safely and without further damage to her physical welfare. To conclude, Planned Parenthood is able to vastly improve women’s overall health through its facilities, like cancer screenings and family planning. However,
Anthony List that, “In 2013, abortions made up 94% of Planned Parenthood’s pregnancy services.” Many Pro-Life advocates use this number to fuel the ongoing fight for Planned Parenthood’s closure. Although, it is revealed that the number is derived from the comparison of the abortions performed and two other services the clinic provides. Which makes it weighed in a way that exaggerates the percentage of abortions, skewing the amount. Since the largest source of revenue for Planned Parenthood is government funding, President-elect Donald Trump - using that source of income as leverage against Planned Parenthood - has signed an executive order barring funds from organizations that promote abortion around the world. Since it is seen as immoral to evacuate a pregnancy, the plan to defund Planned Parenthood is the Pro-lifers attempt at making abortion that much harder to
While Planned Parenthood offers cancer screening, pregnancy testing, sexually transmitted infection testing, contraception, and more, the safe and legal abortion service they provide is typically the highlight of conversation (Sexual Health Topics - Planned Parenthood). It is interesting to compare the Democratic candidates to the Republican candidates on this subject. Mr. Sanders and Mrs. Clinton wish to fight to continue Planned Parenthood’s government funding. In fact, Mr. Sanders hopes to find a way to expand the funding (Fighting For Women’s Rights). On the other hand, Mr. Trump, and Mr. Cruz wish to end the Planned Parenthood funding. Donald Trump has expressed some mixed thoughts regarding the funding and abortion. Mr. Trump believes that Planned Parenthood has done “very good work for millions of women," (Krieg). However, Mr. Trump has also said, “But Planned Parenthood should absolutely be defunded. I mean if you look at what’s going on with that, it’s terrible” (Donald Trump: “Planned Parenthood Should Absolutely Be De-Funded”). Quite frankly, I think Mr. Trump is confused. It is clear that he wishes to defund Planned Parenthood due to the abortion service provided even though he recognized the majority of work Planned Parenthood does for millions of women (Krieg). Jill Stein has not publicly commented on Planned Parenthood’s government funding; however, she did comment on the organization’s decision to endorse Mrs. Clinton (Sheer). Planned Parenthood has personally influenced my life. I work in the education branch of Planned Parenthood as a high school sexual health peer educator. In my opinion, the work Planned Parenthood does deserves and requires government funding which is why I would vote for the Democrat candidates when considering this
The unrelenting lie that has sat upon the lips of most everyone who opposes Planned Parenthood. Much like the statement that Planned Parenthood deals ninety percent in abortion and pregnancy services, this is an outright lie and a tactic to convince people that Planned Parenthood serves no purpose other than abortion. Their goal is to cloud the organization with false and offensive claims and hide all the good the organization does to eliminate access to pregnancy termination. The truth of the matter is none of the money Planned Parenthood receives goes to funding abortions. All of Planned Parenthood's services are provided like a privatized provider but the difference is Planned Parenthood accepts Medicare and tidal 10 Programs which allow the doctors to perform things like well women's care like breast exams
Planned parenthood is an organization that provides reproductive care to those who can not afford to pay for the health care being given to them. Planned Parenthood allows women to have abortions after unplanned pregnancy. Many believe that Planned Parenthood funds should be decreased or just have that ability completely taken away because planned parenthood is already paid for and people sometimes just abuse the power and it takes more money out of taxpayers pockets even if they don’t use it. If the mistake is made, then they deal with the mistake instead of having other people to pay for it. Yet, some believe to want Planned Parenthood and give certain rights to the women.
A few days ago, Trump stated: “The other, you’re gonna need a lot of Supreme Court justices, but we’re gonna be looking at that very, very carefully, but you need a lot Supreme Court judges. But defund yes, we’re going to be doing a lot of that.” (Donald Trump) Trump wants to hit the homerun and completely rid of any abortion in this country. While defunding Planned Parenthood would certainly save the government a half billion dollars, what is the cost that will come with that? When it comes to Roe v. Wade, it will take a ton of work for that piece of legislation to be overturned and I do not think it is a tangible goal for Trump. Recently, the Republican controlled Senate voted to defund Planned Parenthood but this obviously come with a ton of backlash from the public. I personally think that with Trump having an opposing stance to Planned Parenthood will hurt him in his efforts to become president. Women’s health is a very important issue in this country and according to USA Today poll, 58% of Americans would oppose any kind of defunding of Planned Parenthood. (USAToday.com) Even though I consider myself to be a “conservative”, I do believe that Planned Parenthood is integral for this country on supporting women’s health in the United States. Americans do not seem to mind helping to pay for Planned Parenthood and since that is the case,
Planned Parenthood is a reproductive health clinic who is partially funded by the government. Because of certain laws, the money given to Planned Parenthood is directed towards aspects of the program like cancer screenings, pap smears, contraceptives, etc, and is not used to perform abortions (“Planned Parenthood”). Pro-Life supporters believed that funding Planned Parenthood allowed for extra money to support abortions, and were able to get Congress to pass a bill to defund the organization in January of 2016 (“Planned Parenthood”). President Barack Obama ultimately vetoed the bill, but Congress has not stopped efforts to defund the organization. Women and men benefit from Planned Parenthood in many ways other than abortions, and defunding it would be detrimental. Planned parenthood One source says, “Planned Parenthood's operations include preventing unintended pregnancies by distributing birth control and educating the public about contraception; reducing the spread of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) through education, testing, and treatment; and screening for cervical and other cancers. Planned Parenthood clinics also offer pregnancy tests, prenatal care, and adoption referral services. Furthermore, Planned Parenthood sponsors the largest sex education program in the United States, educating 1.5 million adults and teenagers every
Americans recently elected a new president. As some people expected, there have been some changes made to our health care bill, government funding, tax reform and more changes are proposed but have not passed yet. Donald Trump, a new American president, have a different opinion about health care structure and funding in the United States than previous president Barak Obama. Some of the reforms proposed by Trump since he took over the office, such as Obamacare repeal, failed to pass earlier this year. According to Caldwell (2017), “Senate Republicans failed to pass a pared-down Obamacare repeal bill early Friday on a vote of 49-51 that saw three of their own dramatically break ranks”. A social institution,
The truth is simple: We need Planned Parenthood in order to provide affordable and safe healthcare for people in the United States. Planned Parenthood had estimated that in 2013 and 2014 alone, its associates provided 865,721 Pap tests and breast exams, conducted 704,079 tests for HIV, and provided 1,440,495 emergency contraception kits. Yes, Planned Parenthood provides access to safe and legal abortion procedures, but they only account for three percent of the services the organization offers out of over five million Americans it serves. The effort of defunding Planned Parenthood due to their abortion services is absurd because those services are paid for out-of-pocket by the individual, and it takes away the many other essential services the organization has to offer.
In addition, Gov. John Kasich of Ohio reacted to Trump’s comment, “of course women should not be punished.” But Pollitt indicates Kasich disapproves legal abortion unless it is under certain circumstances like rape, interbreeding and spare a woman's life. It has been known that Kasich signed seventeen anti-abortion into law where it enforces clinics to shut down or stop conducting abortions. Moreover, Pollitt uses another statement from Senator Ted Cruz, he states “being pro-life is not simply about the unborn child, it is also about the mother.” Where he would allow legal abortion only to an extent to help the women, Ted Cruz also tried to convince the government to withdraw funds from Planned Parenthood. Following that, Donald Trump revoked his comment on abortion, indicating his opinion that the physician or whoever performs the abortion should be held accountable for
Paul states, "I am not opposed to birth control," he said. After a pause, he elaborated. "That 's basically what Plan B is. Plan B is taking two birth control pills in the morning and two in the evening, and I am not opposed to that." This means he agrees with the morning after pill. He disagrees with government funding for abortion. He signed a no taxpayer funding for abortion act. The act prohibits federal funds being used to cover abortion but excludes in cases such as rape, incest, or if a woman is in danger of death. It also disqualifies for purpose of tax deduction of medical expenses for abortion. Paul wants to defend Planned Parenthood.
