For eight years, former President Barack Obama strived to get a health care for those who could not afford it, and that is when Obamacare was created. Now, our new President Donald Trump is looking to reform health care. In an article written by Lee and Luhby on CNN, they stated, “Within hours of taking the oath of office, President Donald Trump on Friday night signed an executive order aimed at trying to fulfill one of his most impassioned campaign promises: Rolling back Obamacare” (1). President Trump wanted to prevent civilians to use Obamacare which is also known as the Affordable Care Act. President Trump’s intention is to help the people of America to have the right not to pay for an expensive health care insurance. Donald Trump has seven …show more content…
Our new elect- President Donald Trump has many goals he desires to accomplish within his four-year term, and one of which is improving health care. Former President, Barack Obama created Obamacare for people to use as a more effective and affordable health insurance. Many Democrats are protesting for their right to keep this Affordable Care Act; however, President Donald Trump is in the process of replacing this health insurance. One huge supporter of the Affordable Care Act is Hillary Clinton; former opponent of President Trump. Hillary Clinton’s plans for health care included to defend and expand the Affordable Care Act, bring down out-of-pocket costs like copays and deductibles, reduce the cost of prescription drugs, protect consumers from unjustified prescription drug price increases from companies, and fight for health insurance for the lowest-income Americans (“Hillary on Health Care” 1). Most of Clinton’s goals were already in involved with Obamacare, and she aspired to push Obamacare to its’ fullest advantage by helping it become enhanced and …show more content…
Nancy Pelosi is a strong role model in the support for Obamacare because she is a Democratic leader of the House of Representatives. Pelosi and Clinton had a huge female role in the election because they both wanted to make a difference in health care. An interesting material revealed Nancy Pelosi declaring, “Evidently, ethics are the first casualty of the new Republican Congress” (Howell & Dinan 1). Nancy Pelosi craves what every other American desire, a fair health care insurance. In this statement, Pelosi is essentially saying that the moral rights are being shown by the people of congress on the Republican side; however, she does not believe they are using their ethics to the full advantage. This supports another statement she made in an interview when she remarked, “Republicans will leave millions of Americans without health insurance -- and worsen the coverage of many more -- with no clear plan for what will follow” (Bradner & Walsh 1). Both Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi had a strong mind to make Obamacare last, and help Americans across the states to be insured with the best health care possible. To conclude, the Affordable Care Act did have a positive side to it, and the cons of clearing Obamacare can affect its main focus, and that was to have an affordable insurance for citizens to obtain with lower prices on medications and medical visits. With the help of
On March 23, 2010, Obamacare, also know as the Affordable Care Act was signed into law. Many were hopeful that it would be a positive impact on the American health system. However, as time passed it became apparent that people either loved the new bill or despised it. Therefore, the first thing current United States President Donald Trump did after being sworn into office was issue an executive order to repeal Obamacare. Although the repeal and replacement of Obamacare is meant to improve health care across the nation, it will likely destroy the economy, and leave millions without insurance.
The Affordable Care Act also known as Obamacare was signed into law by President Obama on March 23, 2010. On June 28, 2012 the Supreme Court upheld the Healthcare law. The new bill covers several benefits for families such as “guaranteed coverage of pre-existing conditions and elimination of gender discrimination” (Obamacarefacts-pros-and-cons). There seem to be plenty of gray areas in the Affordable Care Act due to disagreement with state legislative, but some that are very positive in my opinion. We will look at the benefits of the Affordable Care Act for women, senior citizens, college students and also the opposition of the Employer Mandate.
Universal Healthcare in the United States has been a long time journey that dates back decades and we, as a country, are far behind other developed countries who have had universal healthcare for a long time. Today, Healthcare is obtained through employers or by people paying for it by themselves, which is incredibly expensive due to high premiums. Five years have passed since the controversial Obama care, or Affordable Care Act, was signed into law on March 23, 2010. The Affordable Care Act aimed at fixing the many problems that the United States has with healthcare by making it available to everyone, but also more efficient and this required drastic changes that made some people happy while others unhappy since some are benefiting while others are not. These people include politicians, but foremost presidential candidates. Candidate’s stance on the issue of healthcare is truly important due to the fact that if they’re the next president of the United States, it could hurt or improve the health care reform. Noteworthy candidates are: Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton, Marco Rubio, and Bernie Sanders. Republicans and Democrats have long debated whether or not the Affordable Care Act should be repealed or replaced. Republicans believe that it is a problem while Democrats support it. The Affordable Care Act should not be replaced but instead improved because it provides quality and affordable health care to Americans. Everyone gets sick and people shouldn’t be afraid of receiving help
During Trump 's presidential speech he describes Obamacare as a big lie he declares that “costs are going for people up 29, 39, 49, and even 55 percent, and deductibles are through the roof”. Consequently you would have to get hit by a tractor to use it because deductibles are so high in other words Trump illustrates Obamacare as useless. In addition, he speaks upon the Obamacare website he states that we spent “$5 billion... and to this day it doesn’t work". He ridicules the outrageous price by mentioning that he has a handful of websites and that they only cost him $3.He claims doctors are quitting. In fact, his friend who’s a doctor is devastated by the outcome, he claims to have more accountants than nurses. Trump asserts that
The Obama Presidency is known for many things: two wars, economy crashes, government shutdowns and, yes, the infamous Obamacare. Throughout the last six years, President Obama’s agenda was set towards passing a major healthcare reform bill: The Patient Protection and Affordable Healthcare Act (ACA), more commonly known as Obamacare. Passed on March 23, 2010 under considerable opposition, ACA is widely considered to be the landmark achievement of Obama’s presidency, and his hopeful legacy for historians long afterward. The law has since survived multiple challenges regarding its legality, but its impact on the intended (original) goal of reducing medical costs is still unclear. Affordable healthcare for all
During his presidential announcement speech, Trump’s presented his ideas on how he will bring the American back to life since the American dream is dead in his perspective. Among all the claims he expresses his thoughts on Obamacare, also known as the Affordable Care Act. He affirms “We have a disaster called the big lie: Obamacare. Obamacare." and admits that indeed Obamacare will really kick in 2016. Trump plans on repealing and replacing Obamacare. He plans on granting better health insurance to everyone at an inexpensive cost for the people and for the government. Trump exaggerates the cost to persuade his Republican audience into believing of Obamacare as a catastrophe, however, he fails to backup the data he presents not to mention that the data is wrong.
Healthcare is the United States has had a long and turbulent history. Beginning with Medicare during the Johnson administration to Reagan’s reductions on most government agencies, health care has been a polarizing topic in the modern age of politics. A young senator from Illinois, Barak Obama, ran in the 2008 Democratic primaries with plans to revitalize the United States health care. Eight years later the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or Obamacare, is a trademark of the 44th presidents time in office. Receiving praise and criticism from both sides of the aisle, the topic became a debate topic throughout the election. Throughout President Trump’s campaign he had promised a full repeal and replacement of ACA by his 100th day in office, April
The issue of healthcare coverage under the federal health reform has been politically debated by many Americans, including the current Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. The healthcare reform enacted in 2010 under President Obama’s regime intended to support the ongoing healthcare system as a building block to enhance more access to health insurance coverage for millions of uninsured Americans; yet the government’s tireless effort to ensure all individuals are covered remains a major issue across the country.
As Americans citizens we have the freedom of religion, speech and press, the right to vote, the right to bear arms and the right to a fair trial so why not the right for affordable health insurance. Americans would appreciate reasonably priced health care with benefits and Obamacare was the first presidential attempt to force less ideal health care on all Americans; Trump has promised to revamp Obamacare and help Americans with better health care coverage.
So many people were not able to afford healthcare because it was so expensive resulting in them not having any healthcare at all. When President Obama was in office, he came up with the idea of the Affordable Care Act(Obamacare). It allowed everyone to receive some sort of healthcare at an affordable rate. Both Clinton and Trump have different views on if Obamacare should still be used or repealed. Clinton wants to continue to expand and improve Obamacare. I believe that Obamacare is not working. The promises that were made by Obama about citizens having affordable health care insurance is not happening. People are foregoing medical coverage and paying the penalty which is much cheaper. Trump believes every American deserves access to high quality affordable healthcare insurance. He considers the system socialism where it’s a government run healthcare. He believes we need a system where families and doctors are the primary decision makers. He wants to replace Obamacare with a system that will cost less money for the government and the people. I believe that the insurance policy in this country must be changed and Obamacare should be repealed. We should have a new healthcare policy that would be market-based and
The discussion of Obamacare is on the lips of every Republican in the US Government. According to Sally Driscoll and Richard Grant, authors of “Counterpoint: The Free Market is More Effective at Improving Healthcare and Lowering Cost Than the Government”, the key to solving the non stop increasing cost of medical care and the number of citizens that are not insured is not a liberal payer (like single-payer) or even a non conservative (like total deregulation), but somewhere in the middle. The country needs a program that would broaden the competitiveness among the healthcare industry, and Obamacare will help every American
By the 1990’s, the cost of private health care had begun to rise tremendously as well as the government spending to cover Medicare and Medicaid. In 1993, President Bill Clinton unsuccessfully pushed to reform the existing health care system. During the 2008 presidential election, health care reform became a key issue, especially among Democrats. It became aware that “nearly 46 million Americans were uninsured, while 25 million others did not have adequate coverage.” Many individuals relied on the government health care programs due to the high cost of private health care. Once elected, President Obama made health care reform the focus of his political agenda. He called on Congress to form an all-inclusive bill that would “provide coverage to all Americans, lower health care costs, and improve the
President-Elect Trump issued a seven-point health care reform plan that is a preliminary version of the concept of what he would like to do. Furthermore, this eludes to Trump’s vision to, “…repeal and replace Obamacare with Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), work with Congress to create a patient-centered health care system that promotes choice, quality, and affordability, work with states to establish high-risk pools to ensure access to coverage for individuals who have not maintained continuous coverage, allow people to purchase insurance across state lines in all 50 states thus creating a dynamic market, require price transparency from all health care providers, remove barriers to enter into
Donald Trump made repealing and replacing Obamacare, a.k.a. the Affordable Care Act, a cornerstone of his presidential campaign. Yet, unlike some of his GOP rivals, the candidate pledged to preserve Medicaid and Medicare. So far, President Trump has stumbled on both promises. His first attempt to repeal and replace Obamacare failed in March because it didn 't appeal to both hardline conservatives and moderate Republicans. Now, Trump is pushing Congress to come to an agreement on a plan that could do just that.
On March 32rd, 2013, President Obama presented to Congress a Healthcare Reform Stimulus Act, in which he ensured will help all the American people save plenty of money on health coverage and medical expenses; such as, hospitalization and treatments. The Affordable Health Care Act, bill was put into law to cover recipients who was paying high premiums reduce their premiums and to insure uninsured recipients who could not afford to purchase coverage get it at a cheater cost. Without a doubt, universal healthcare is still considered one of the most challenging social problems that we have to deal with today. Even though, this issue is unsolved there is still a lot to discuss that need to be clarified concerning affordable healthcare. During presidential election in 2012 both parties the Republicans and the Democrats presented different viewpoints on this ideologies matter. Obama care new health care policy was put into action this to provide more coverage to a larger percentage of low–income working American, it is less cost effective and more within citizens spending budget. “AHRQ-funded researchers compared data on health maintenance organization (HMO) premiums in various markets. Premiums were lower in more competitive markets, where a high percentage of the population was enrolled in HMOs and many HMOs competed for their business” (AHRQ, 2002, Para. 13).
