President Dwight D. Eisenhower is a role model to many American. From being a general during WWII, to helping fund NASA’s ever longing hope to go into space, he helped shape America into the country it is today. Eisenhower was born October 14, 1890 in Abilene, Kansas to David and Ida Eisenhower (“Biography” Web.). He attended the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. Eisenhower grew up to be a highly respected man, becoming the 34th president of the United States of America. He became known as the man who helped end the Korean War, create the Interstate Highway, and assisted the Middle East during the Cold War (“Korean” Web.).

After World War II, the US, Britain, and USSR decided that the Koreas should become two separate countries. However, the Koreas wanted to unite into one country. North Korea surprised South Korea by attacking at dawn on June 25, 1950. The war continued to escalate and the US sent in an army to help South Korea. During this time, Eisenhower helped negotiate a seemingly never ending armistice in the Korean war only six months into his presidency. Eisenhower continued to surprise people throughout his presidency. Eisenhower signed the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 (“Highway” Web.). Money obtained through this act led to the development of a highway system running through all 48 states. Construction was completed over a period of 20 years. Today this highway is used to transport goods across the country; such as; oil, lumber, and food
