Edgar Poe was born in 1809 to David and Elizabeth Poe. Two short years later Edgar’s mother died and his father had vanished. Upon the death of his mother, Poe became a foster child, where soon John and Frances Allan took him into their home and raised him. Gambling debts soon ended Poe’s financial support from the Allan’s so he dropped out of University where he had been attending for a year. Setting off to Boston Poe published the first of many collections of poems and decided to enlist in the army. Realizing he was worthless he abandoned the army instead, turning to a life of conflict and debt.

Another look at Poe’s outstanding variety and range of tales, represents the many genres he explored and how important they are today. Murder mysteries is said to be one of his most considerable accomplishments in literature. Although, they existed before Poe wrote about them his style and originality prevailed over other writers. Moreover, Poe’s fascinating and imaginative writing in science fiction earned him a lasting impact there as well.

Having composed tales of terror and barbaric behavior treasure-mystery became another genre that can be traced back to Poe. He made people feel like they were actually apart of his stories. The style and way the words flowed on the page made Poe’s stories unforgettable to everyone who read them. Much of his fame isn’t just from the tales he wrote, a heap of his fame comes from the insight he had into new advancements.

Applying most of his originality and strict style to poetry he showed how a poem like “The Raven” could be popular but also, suit many critics taste. Poe’s different approaches to literature earned him the respect from numerous authors.
