Edgar Poe was born in 1809 to David and Elizabeth Poe. Two short years later Edgar’s mother died and his father had vanished. Upon the death of his mother, Poe became a foster child, where soon John and Frances Allan took him into their home and raised him. Gambling debts soon ended Poe’s financial support from the Allan’s so he dropped out of University where he had been attending for a year. Setting off to Boston Poe published the first of many collections of poems and decided to enlist in the army. Realizing he was worthless he abandoned the army instead, turning to a life of conflict and debt.

Murder mysteries is said to be one of his most considerable accomplishments in literature. Although, they existed before Poe wrote about them his style and originality prevailed over other writers. John Allan was a very wealthy man but he only gave Edgar a third of his school requirements and this alienated him from Edgar. When Allan’s wife dies Edgar also decides to move out because he could not put up with John Allan. Edgar loved poetry from a tender age. He even wrote verses to girls that he developed feelings for. He could have had his first poetry book published by the age of 14 years but there was no support both from his teachers and his adoptive parents.
