Everyone is raised with the constant reminder of how bad illegal substances are and are told this time and time again. People and powerful political figures give a false idea on one specific “drug” present in the world today, without the facts and statistics to prove their theories. People in today’s world, specifically those in the United States, do not quite understand how useful and profitable this naturally grown herb really is. This “drug” is known as marijuana, and has many surprising beneficial factors for both medical and recreational purposes. Marijuana is referred to in today’s media as a brain damaging and dangerous drug, showing stereotype after stereotype of people who have abused this substance. This plant contains an alternating chemical called Tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as THC. Marijuana has its ups and downs, thus, creating many different persons to have sent out controversial arguments on whether or not it is safe to smoke or inhale the vapor of Marijuana. As always, everything consists of advantages and disadvantages. The advantages for marijuana, in the medical field, help treat many diseases like cancer, AIDS, and chronic pain. Used mainly as a pain reliever, an individual that has chronic pain is allowed to see a doctor and if the doctor says so, the patient will be able to possess a Medical Marijuana card. Doctors may also prescribe this card to individuals that suffer anorexia, muscle spasms, and other body malfunctions. It also is non-addictive and is therapeutically safe. Set aside of the advantages, Marijuana also has disadvantages when used in the medical field. These disadvantages could be damaged organs and symptoms like the brain, lungs, immune system, and also interferes with judgement, depth perception, learning, and memory
